I'd very eagerly awaited their "release" in February, but it turned out to only be to specialty light bulb websites, and $60 with shipping. Now five stores have no stock on the B&M "launch day". Looks like they haven't been able to ramp up production yet, and are very low on supply, but for PR reasons went ahead with the Earth Day announcement.
), lets them delay costly grid upgrades, and most importantly lets them avoid the incredible expense of constructing a brand new generation plant. Reducing peak consumption is the cheapest option for utilities by far, and that ultimately leads to lower rates for customers and more business as they switch providers.

Utilities really do not pay for subsidies. They include them in their rate increase requests and consumers pay for the subsidies themselves when paying higher utility rates. This way consumers are able to replace power hog bulbs and appliances with more efficient ones without realizing that they are actually paying for the subsidies themselves. Great way to get people to buy more energy efficient bulbs and refrigerators...

Although that's not the only reason utlities have subsidizes. It's also because it's cheaper to reduce customer usage than to build new power plants. So in a way, they are paying for the subsidy. Although in the end, obviously, the customers pay for everything. Well... unless you are in California then the government caps the rates and then the utility actually subsidizes the customers. |

Isn't this the same bulb or very close? http://www.amazon.com/Philips-423...B004IUMGV4 I just bought one, its nice but going to end up returning it because I want something closer to 5000k. I actually bought what was advertised here but the 5000k bulb. Expensive as hell at like $25 but I like it. Its a little heavy for my fixture but I think it will work out. Vague questions receive vague answers . . . . . .

). The L-Prize one also has much better color rendering, scoring a 93/100, vs 80/100. The color temperature of both are the same however--2700K, just like incandescents. So if you're seeking a 5000K temperature bulb, you'll have to go with a different brand for now.

I wonder if anybody has disassembled the LED bulb yet. I don't like that white disc at the top of the bulb, it sort of reduces light output at the top. I know it's designed to reduce blinding light if directly gazed upon the LED bulb. |

The sticker in front of LED’s is also to diffuse light in other directions. LED's are very narrow beam devices, optics makes them disperse light better. I also disliked the sticker, but it does provide more omnidirectional light. It is too damn expensive for me to disassemble it,,,
110x0.125 is 13.75, so it really approaches 14 Watts. Writing 13 is a bit of stretch... Still the cheapest 850 lumen bulb on the market... |

I finally got my order of four bulbs today and they are most likely going back to the store. I planned to use these in track lighting type fixtures. I looked at them at the store and they looked like they would work. The problem is all of the light comes out of the edges and the inside of the disk is dark. They look goofy and the light is blocked by the design of the fixture.
The only good news is the color temp is almost identical to a regular light bulb. I think I'll stick with regular bulbs for now. |
