Seems like a decent deal. Picked up another one for a high foot traffic lab build where the coil whine doesn't really matter.

I haven't heard coil whine from the X650 that I've had for well over a year. I think the coil whine seems to indicate a problem rather than a normal state of operation.

The seasonic X series PSU are incredibly quite. Most of the time, the fan never spins so it really is dead silent. There are plenty of modules as well. The one complaint I have is anyone with a large computer case; the MB and CPU power cable might be very tight because its not that long, other than that, its a great PSU.

Just ordered this few days ago for $160, what's newegg's policy about refunding the difference?

I agree that it's not supposed to be standard behavior, but it's a fairly common problem with these units that was never addressed. I actually have a couple of these already and they both exhibited these problems even after RMAing them with Seasonic for replacements. I eventually just put them in high traffic areas where noise really doesn't matter.

That being said, Seasonic has a reputation for reliable operation, so these are on mission-critical builds. $120 seems like a decent price for an x750. I'm not sure I've seen it cheaper than $110-120 in recent memory.

As a policy, then don't refund the difference but they will commonly do so as a "one time exception." It doesn't hurt to try.

I didn't realize it was so common. I've used the X series PSU for several PC builds for friend without issue, so to hear its common, I'm a little surprised. That's for that bit of information. Even so, I whole heartily agree that Seasonsic make incredible reliable PSU for mission critical devices. Considering I've run 3 Seasonic PSU in 24/7 environments for several years, I'm willing to trust them more than the Antec PSU; the fans died after about a year of use. Since then, its been Seasonic, even if they are more costly, I'll pay it.

They don't have a price guarantee policy that I know of, but you can call and try to sweet talk someone into giving you the difference. Best case scenario, you get some money back. Returning the product, they might have you pay a restocking fee at 15% + the cost of shipping will not make it worth the effort to return and rebuy.

True. They hit you with a restock fee but shoprunner takes some of the sting out of returns.

I own this exact model and can honestly say I have never once heard the fan and definitely no coil whine. It's so quiet I wonder if the fan in mine even works, lol. I cannot recommend this unit enough, especially at this price.

Oh man, I came very close to pulling the trigger on one of these this weekend, I'd have been FFFFUUUUUUUU if I had.

I have one in a system already, I love it. Instead of getting another one for a new system, I splurged on the newer Seasonic Platinum 860. I bought the first X750 because of a whine that showed up with a previous Corsair PSU and a new video card. No problems with the X750 and I don't think I've ever heard the fan.

thinking of buying one just to put away for future build.

I've been using one of these for well over a year now and I haven't heard the fan once or any coil whine either. I have excellent hearing, and it would annoy me to no end if the power supply made any noise because I bought it specifically to silent operation.

I originally installed the PS in the standard position at the bottom of my case (Corsair 600T) with the fan facing the floor. I would check periodically to see if the fan was spinning and most times it was -- albeit very slowly. I ran it this way for months and decided to flip it around to see if it needed a cleaning. The fan and insides were spotless. On a lark I decided to reinstall it with the fan facing up inside the case. (The 600T allows for this.) Much to my surprise the fan hardly ever spins now. I suspect this is because heat can more readily escape by simply rising through the fan hole instead of needing to be removed by the fan. I will be leaving it in the 'fan up' position from now on.
