I have one of these. I don't use the UV sanitizer much. The cost isn't so much the base unit, but the replacement heads. If it saves on the bill to the dentist I figure it's actually a cost savings.

After using one of these, my teeth still feel dirty after manual scrubbing!

ive been waiting for a nice electric toothbrush. uv sanitizer and travel case/charger is a plus.

For those unsure of the price, the UV sanitizer is really unnecessary and likely does nothing more beneficial than just rinsing the toothbrush head well and replacing it every 2-3 months. Only germs that can be 'seen' by the UV will be killed, and as soon as the UV cycle is done whatever bacteria are left there will multiply at an insanely rapid pace and you're back to billions and billions before you brush your teeth again anyway.

I have the Oral-B Professional Care SmartSeries 5000 [amazon.com] right now. I like it a lot, down to the little timer/clock display. Big fan of the floss-action brushes vs the precision clean. But my dentist insists that the circular motion is destroying my already eroding gum line and told me to get a Sonicare, which supposedly only vibrates back and forth gently. Since I'm a sucker, I decided to wait for a good deal and buy the Sonicare to test it myself, thus the reason for my post.

You missed the point. Only use the UV sanitizer before you start brushing.
