obi100 from amazon last week for $35 ftw. Setup with google voice was under 10 mins and its pretty flawless.

For 911 service just go buy a $3 att go phone which includes a sim card, pop it in and keep it in a corner somewhere. Even with no minutes it can call 911 when needed!

noob question, how is ooma different than magic jack? can ooma do faxing?

main difference is call quality and price. ooma is far superior in quality calls. ooma will cost more @ $3-4 per month and initial equipment setup (I paid $160 for mine, now it's $110). ooma does not need a computer to work. magic jack requires a computer ("magic jack plus" does not). there have been reports that faxing does work. my fax works with ooma. but there are also reports about people having problems with faxing. so you wont know until you try.

Will this rebate work with an upgrade? I need a deal on that. My old gen hub is getting flaky, but I have to buy as an upgrade or else I will have to pay that $3.50/month ...

Really, you can do this? My old hub is...well, getting old. I'd like to go to telo, but thought I would have to start paying the taxes/fees. Sure is nice not having to with the hub.

How do you 'upgrade' and avoid the fees?

The fax trick is to dial "*99" before dialing the number, if I recall correctly. Ihave Obi and Ooma (old one). I like them both. Obi gets the nod because it is free; I don't like the Ooma tax obligation.
