Well all MMOs are basically the same. The main things that stick out about Guild Wars 2 would be f2p (no monthly subscriptions) and dynamic quests/events.

i do remember guild war 1 had no subscription fee & some amazing large scale battles.

Will Guild Wars be an action MMO?

Not exactly sure what the definition of action mmo is but I would say it is.

Almost all skills can be used while moving with the exception of the traditional big AOE skills for example that have to channel. There is tab targeting like typical mmos but most skills can be cast without a target and will simply hit whatever is in front of you.

Also most classes can swap between 2 weapon sets during combat which will change your first 5 skills while the elementalist can swap between different attunements for fire/water/air/earth instead of having 2 weapon sets.

It's not action mmo in terms of how tera has it set up that your mouse movement is your facing direction and where you attack, but you definitely are not rooted to the ground to perform any skill casts (except those few channel abilities of course)

An action game is something along the lines of Batman Arkham City and Ninja Gaiden. It's a game in which the player can use the environment to his advantage or be mindful of the environment causing damage. An action MMO would take action game mechanics such as players being able to jump on walls, climb on walls, grapple across the trees, and other such actions. Now combined that with an MMO and you have an action MMO.


An action MMO game isn't static like the way WoW is. In WoW, everything feels 1 dimensional even though the game is played in 3D. WoW, is basically a text type of game with nicer graphics.
