internet IP Change

YES. I've been waiting on someone to say this in short. With Comcast cable, I can hook my cable modem up to a router and I'll get one IP address, then I can hook it straight through to my PC and get another IP, then hook it back up to a laptop and get another IP. The only difference is the MAC address on the NIC I'm using. Heck it wouldn't hurt to have a second router to hook up just to get another IP address then go back to the other router when the time is right, say a week or so. If the router is preconfigured, it's just plug n play at that point.

However at this point the OP has not stated whether he/she has cable or DSL so I've not chimed in otherwise.

what i have is verizon fios. the modem is wireless with 4 port. i hooked my netgear wireless router to one of those port to get my side of the house with internet. room mate lives in the other side and he is directly connected to the fios modem. Dotacash banned him and i am also banned, so i am assumming it is from the internet IP and not just my computer.

Surely it's the MAC of the Cable-modem, not the MAC of the first hop device attached to it (router/PC/whatever.)

Thats not %100 true you don't need to wait until the lease expires no does another device need to get that ip for you to get a new one. Though more often that not if you are offline a short period of time more often then not you will get the same ip but you make it sound like you have to unplug your router for weeks to get a new ip.
