If you get some of the 100% cotton shirts, they're a better material that washes up better than the terrible shiny cotton/spandex stuff. The 100% cotton shirts are typically ones with stripes or plaid patterns. |

Spread collar is more modern and looks better (subjectively of course) under a suit. Button down collar is the most casual option of the 3. They're more suited for sportshirts than dress shirts. I wouldn't recommend them (unless you're already stocked full of dress shirts and want more variety). |

express used to make decent stuff that was passable. i've stopped shopping there altogether. for people that interested in good shirts in a slim fit, check out the following places:
-nordstrom rack -bloomingdales last call -zara -uniqlo -topman -h&m personally i like zara a lot, not only is the fit slim, but they follow more modern design cues such as smaller collars. the collars on the 1mx shirts are awful. |

Agree with everything this guy said (except the part where you can get decent Hugo Black shirts for $50...that's a steal, at least in Los Angeles). I'm over 6'4", around 200 (think CrossFit, not skin-and-bones). And yeah, fit matters. Both sides of the argument are correct: Express shirts DO fit in-shape people really well, but yeah, they ARE kinda crap. My personal favorite is the aforementioned Boss Black, slim fit. The problem is they're usually over $100. The styles/sizes at my [keep in mind, this is LA] Nordies rack aren't the best. Cladmen actually had some really screamin' deals before they went kaput. Wish I'd bought more. The important thing isn't who's right and who's wrong here. The important thing is to make an informed decision. If this is your first foray in to nightclubs and business casual and button downs, by all means, get yourself a nice-fitting 1MX. Just know what you're getting into (it's poor quality material, it WILL wrinkle, and it probably won't last forever). But that doesn't mean there is no place for them. Maybe on your birthday or special occasion, go in to a Nordies/Saks/Bloomies and see if you can find a brand that you like. Then set up an SD alert (for example, the Macy's 25% friends and family going on now) and see if you can pick one up on the cheap. Build your wardrobe slowly, when you can afford it. Thanks for all the info, guys. Confused about a deal? Not sure if you want to drive all the way there? Remember the FIRST RULE OF SLICKDEALS: ALWAYS CALL!
