Looking for 17" Notebook deal & Walmart Warranty thoughts?
My 4 year old HP notebook is about to die and feeling so fortunate it has made it this long! ![]() A computer repair guy told me to get a Toshiba notebook at WalMart and then get the $79 2 year warranty which says: Peace of mind without the sticker shock. Our Plans protect your laptop from failures such as drops, spills & cracked screens. No deductibles. No hidden fees. Fully transferable. So I found this one online w/ free shipto store or .79 home delivery as their closest somewhat Slick Deal Toshiba Refurbished 17.3" Satellite L775D-S7222 Laptop PC with AMD A6-3400M Accelerated Processor and Windows 7 Home Premium http://www.walmart.com/ip/Toshiba...m/20510938 Seems like a good machine and if I can get it with 2 yr warranty for $567 I may just pull the trigger. I did see these i5 refurbs http://slickdeals.net/f/4267838-A...ED-LAPTOPS Also the Bestbuy $349 Toshiba B960 4 GB is appealing for the price but think I would be more happy with an A6, i3 or i5 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Toshi...Id=4790287 I use it as a desktop replacement / business machine, some light video and photo processing, so I think I like the AMD + Radeon better than an i3 or i5 w/ HDGraphics. Any feedbackor thoughts is much appreciated

Its expensive for a 17 inch A6... but otherwise its a good buy if your in a rush. Personally, A6 is marginally above an i3, so I would expect an i3 type special. I have no review of walmarts warranty service but if it is like they say it is, then it is definitely worth it.

The local Best Buy had a variant of that Toshiba on clearance for $314.99 so I drove over and tried the display model. It definitely wasn't a bargain even for that price. The whole notebook is cheap ugly glossed plastic and it feels awful to use. For your specifications, you should go with Intel for sure; AMD's IGP isn't going to be more useful than the HD 3000 for those tasks.
I was buying the computer for my mother's birthday. I was hoping that one of the cheaper laptops would be suitable for her, but after trying the display models, I rejected the bargain models and purchased a Lenovo V570 for $550 USD. I paid about $150 more than I expected, but definitely it was worth it. |
