Looking for a desktop deal...

I'm looking for a fairly simple desktop deal (for a good friend). No need for a monitor/mouse/keyboard/printer. It needs to have a current windows OS. Office included would be a plus, but not required.

Looking for something to do some basic computing. Mostly web and music management. Enough processing power to last a few years w/ out feeling like a dog.

Budget < $400
I had seen some great deals in the Lenovo outlet a month ago, but didn't find much today. A refurb would be acceptable if the deal was good enough and the vendor reputable.

Well, in addition to the Lenovo outlet, you could hit up the Dell outlet. You can get an Inspiron, but they aren't as upgradeable. If you have an outlet coupon and buy the lowest-specced XPS 8300 from the outlet, then in three years or so you can upgrade the RAM up to 16GB, Plus, eventually add even a low-end graphics card and a Blu-Ray player, and you could use it pretty well for watching movies.

Also, check the prices at newegg. They sell pretty solid computers for very good prices.

For Office, does it have to be Microsoft Office, or just a writing program? OpenOffice.org is a great free program, and it has a spreadsheet, presentation maker, etc.

Good luck, I've been looking for a budget desktop deal for a month now with no luck. I've never seen such a deal drought on cheap desktops. Laptop deals galore, but no desktops!

I was referring to MS Office, but until I find a good enough deal I had planned to put him on Open Office.

What type of outlet coupons are out there for the Dell outlet? Can you point me shnitz?

It is worth waiting a week or 2 for the Lenovo Outlet Sales IF YOU CAN. 2 weeks ago there were nice desktops( 378.99 Lenovo H420 Intel i3-2100 6GB 1.5TB Tower Only) for cheap. I have a good feeling that this will happen once the new Intel chip release by the end of this month.

There is also this desktop and you can try to find some coupon codes to bring it down to $400.
