Agreed. BUT, there are plenty of *free* cards out there that provide cash back. I get 2% cb on my Amex Fidelity (all purchases), 5% on my PenFed Visa (gas), along with other cards that don't have an annual fee but do provide cash back. Not doubting that it is good for you, but if it's strictly cashback, you might want to consider looking at alternatives that offer the same (if not more) w/o a fee...

Why not get a Costco AMEX? Doesn't it offer the same level of customer service? Yes, you need a Costco Membership but that in and of itself is far less than $175/annually... plus provides you access to Costco.

yes that's true. my comment is amex vs others.

regarding costco vs charge, it's a matter of your individual plan with the benefits. with the costco card, you're getting cashback. i'm using my points for miles purposes and it's only with the charge card line (green, gold, platinum) and not the others (costco, blue, zync) that you can transfer membership reward points for miles.

example: if you have the 100k miles from the british airways cc, you can use the 50k from these, transfer to british airways with a 50% free bonus, where 50k becomes 75k miles.

All great input here... I applied for the Platinum AMEX a while back for 50K bonus points at 3K spent over 3 months. I applied using the code, called to confirm the code and the offer upon activation, only to be refused the full 50K miles. I was awarded 25K. I was able to use the 25K and cancel the account for a full $450 refund.

I want to jump on this, and probably will, but I advise from past experience to call the application in and verify that you are elligible for the 50K bonus...

I have a Costco membership and plan on buying a ring for 5K and returning it for cash after a few days (you have 30 for a full refund).

You couldn't be more wrong... imo.. Love my business Amex... the free stuff and perks totally out weigh the annual fee.

Remember people, this is a charge card! You will have to pay off the balance every month... 50K can get you two tickets to anywhere within the U.S.. absolutely worth it. Don't spend it on gift cards or items.

someone i know without spending time learning from me bought $5000 giftcards at within few days to meet spend req with chase ink bold, 2 days later all his cards got closed/BANNED by chase for life. call to managers, exec office, branch manager were of no use. he had 10 yrs relationship with chase with on time payment with other card and checking and 60k saving account too. his friend got his cards closed by amex last year for similar story.

BE VERY CAREFUL with these spend reqs guys, dont spend too much at once.

Theoretically, Square should work too.

Swipe the card, charge $5K, wait for your points, then process refund. Make sure to do the refund within 60 days

you mean staples's SER? most rebates comes to me, maybe i haven't done enough of them. but at least you would say staples's SER is safe, rite?

In general, Staples easy rebates are an exception to the MIR game, as you can submit them online and track the status as well.
