I guess the part that confuses me is that our government and others in Europe and Japan have been trying to spur inflation on for the last 3 plus years. With the tools of ultra low interest rates, historic money printing, historic government stimulus, etc. - the Keynesian idea has been to re-inflate the economy. And yet with everything tried, the economy has re-inflated little. The recent bad news about our economy from Investors Business Daily -

Beards are barbarous relics. Nobel prize winners and lauded academics only hold on to them because of "tradition." Their growth over the years is simply an indication of tail risk.

Comparing the recent financial disaster which was largely caused by removing regulations designed to prevent it, to the Great Depression during which nothing was done for 3 years, we find that we've weathered it quite well largely due to government stimulus. That is, provided budget balancer austerity does not win the argument and push us back into recession. |
