After doing some research I am convinced that the -DX is worth the money difference. While an over simplification the biggest difference is that the regular Chronos has asynchronous RAM while the -DX has synchronous and I just bought a 240 DX for less than $1 per gig.

I have had 3 SSD drives at home (ocz ag3/sand ext/patriot se) and 2 at work, 2 in friends PCs (sand ext and ultra), 1 in cousins (microcenter 64), - zero issues (and the ones at work are even the "dreaded" OCZ petrol)
Any type of storage drive is prone to failure especially since HDDs are so prone to poorly packaged /g-shock shipping damage

ps- I dont use hibernate on ANY desktops, SSD or HDD, so maybe thats why I have had good results

pps- and I installed one of these exact SSDs into a vista laptop for a customer- loves it so far

What value does one get out of an SSD in an HTPC though? I have an HTPC with regular harddrive. It is in sleep mode most of the time (has to be in order to record shows). Maybe I reboot once a month or so. It comes out of sleep mode in a matter of seconds, and I haven't really found myself wishing for faster app response. Is SSD a big deal in terms of real world usage that does not require a lot of reboots and installs? Regardless with prices coming down, maybe I will soon give an SSD a try.
