Grand Canyon/Vegas/Hollywood Missing Anything?

We are taking a "Family Road Trip" this summer. Starting in Houston, driving to Grand Canyon, Vegas, Hollywood and back to Houston. We have 2 1/2 weeks, and my kids are 12,14,16. We regularly travel from Houston to the East coast by car, so the ride won't be a problem. Looking for "amazing" places to stay/stop/things to see/do on this epic journey. Travel will lead us through Roswell, NM and back through "lower" AZ on the way home. Any suggestions are appreciated. We love a bargain, but willing to spend more if it is worth it! We already have reservations outside of south rim of GC for 2 nights. We enjoy the outdoors, but don't want to spend all our time in parks. Thanks!

I ended up getting a Groupon for a bus tour of the Hoover Dam... however since you have access to a car, that would be more economical.

My family of 4 will be doing a similar trip but flying into Vegas to begin a road trip. We did the same thing last summer into Denver and did Yellowstone &Tetons with many stops along the way.

Our Vegas trip will include Bryce Canyon and Zion which are relatively close:

If you are going to be in Southern AZ you might consider south of Benson is Kartchner Caverns. We toured it when if first opened some years ago. Its the only real living cave open to the public.

Its not cheap, but we enjoyed it, see prices on the site. Near by is Tombstone AZ, I have never been but kids I hear enjoy it.

When taking I-40 west you may want to go off to Laughlin, NV, north of Kingman AZ. If you are heading West get off on the west side of Kingman and go north. it is not any further than staying on the interstate and you get casino's and a nice river walk as well as different things to see than along the interstate.

And Death Valley , well, that is up to you. Its kind of a place to just say you have been to I guess. If you like 4WD Dune buggy's and ATV's the dunes along I-8 are a bit of a detour unless you visited San Diego, Its a lot to see in 2 1/2 weeks but enjoy. It all depends on the route you want to take to the Grand Canyon if that is your first big stop. US 70 or US 180 both go thru some nice spots, I like Globe AZ area . If you prefer interstates there are different things along that way. If you go thru Winslow AZ the only good place we have found there is a lovely restored hotel that you should stay at or at least dine . Great people and one of our favorite places,

Wife and I Have driven 4 million miles in the last 20+ years on the road and just retired. Lots of places we will go back to after a couple years or relaxing at home.
