Men's & Women's Saucony Progrid Kinvara 2 Shoes $51 + Free Shipping

I've got two half marathons, two 10 mile races and a 12 mile tough mudder (yesterday actually) on my original kinvaras. Have been breaking in a new pair of kinvara 2's thinking the mudder would kill my originals, but after a hosing down and quick wash, I can barely tell they went through knee deep puddles of mud. I've gone through nike free's and newtons as I adjusted to natural running. The Kinvaras seem like the perfect blend of heel drop and cushioning. The nike's were a bit too harsh on the feet, the newton's were too narrow, though they do help with running technique. The kinvara has a nice wide toebox that allows my toes to flatten out nicely.

I use them on trails once in a while, but have been looking at the Peregrine which is pretty much a trail version of the kinvara, and if you get the original, the sizing is the same. How did you like the Kinvaras for the Tough Mudder? I'm eagerly awaiting the Kinvara TR [google.com] for a fall Mudder.

Had no issues with the Kinvara for it. I don't expect many shoes will shed mud from the sole quickly when you're stepping knee deep in it, and it wasn't until mile 10 when going through 4 pits of it did I finally get mud and stone inside the shoe which i thought was impressive. I didn't have any out of the ordinary issues of feeling rocks and stones in general. I'm looking forward to trying the Peregrine [youtube.com] soon which is built off of the Kinvara last and heel drop. Seems extremely similar to the new TR coming out. But I'll take the Peregrine for $50+ at the moment. I'm sure the Kinvara TR will be almost double that for a bit. And the Peregrine 2 supposedly fits a half size smaller than the original which I have a hard time buying 11 1/2 shoes for my 10 1/2 foot. So I'm not sure how the Kinvara TR is going to fit.

Great shoe, 4mm heel toe drop. Work great for a mid/fore foot strike. Not quite a zero drop but the extra support is nice on long runs. Run a hair narrow but otherwise great (ie. if you have wide wide feet dont get them).

I have >300 miles on my pair and some of the treads are wearing flat, but still in very good shape (I only wear them when running).

The problem I had with the newtons (used those primarily - before i got the kinvaras since they were one of the few shoes with a low heel toe drop at that time) is that there is no lateral stability what so ever. The raised lugs dont always line up perfect if your feet arent exactly the same size and you can get pretty wobbly unless you are just running in a straight line...plus they are hella expensive

I thought the newtons were narrow. Never pictured the kinvaras as narrow especially when comparing them to others on runningwarehouse.

The Newton's are definiteley overpriced when the only thing they really offer is those four raised ribs. They're supposed to help condition you to the natural style of running so when you do screw up you know it doesn't feel right. That's just a high price to pay. Even if they did make them as wide as the kinvaras, I wouldn't try them again since they cost 300% more.

Picked up the Yellow/Blk/Orange version in 12's. I tried these on at the local running store a year ago and wasn't too thrilled with the amount of roll to the outside in the toe box I was getting considering I don't run in stability shoes. At the time I chose a pair of Asics Sky Speed DS's which I have really enjoyed. Just wish the 2nd versions of those were still orange like the OG ones. For $50.90 I can't go wrong with the Kinvara 2's though.

I would recommend always sizing a half size up on running shoes if you actually plan to run in them 20+ miles a week. Your feet will swell just during a few miles of running, no need to lose a toe nail.

Got these today and just ran 2.5 miles...very light and feels good. Size 9 not too tight at all.
