My son was in the hospital this past week - he has a size 14 foot and they gave him size XL of these socks. They were so tight he could barely pull them over his heel.

Regardless, theft accounts for 1.42% of total sales and thus 1.42% of total spending. So even if your hypothesis is correct, then only $426 of the $30,000 cost of my dad's hospital bill was due to people stealing socks. Where did the other $29,000 go compared to the cost in Thailand? 1.42% is noise. Napkins are cheap afterall. |

I'm just going to say that the cost of living in Thailand is not exactly comparable to that in the US, so the numbers don't match up. Yes, there is still a large amount that is still not accounted for after the adjustment, but don't use such concrete numbers unless they're comparable. I'm not going to comment either way regarding the health care system and theft.
Anyways, it is possible to get a couple of pairs from the hospital by asking for them, not stealing. Mine have non-skid marks on both sides, and they do feel comfortable to use when I'm wearing boots. It usually takes a lot of time for a person to write a helpful post, but it only takes a few seconds to rep them.

Treatment included local anesthetic, taking a scalpel to my foot, cleaning/dressing the wound, and prescription drugs. As an American who does not qualify for free health care in AU, my bill for everything was $86. It probably would have been close to $1000 for emergency room visit in America, and the prescription drugs would have cost more than the $86 I paid for everything. If I were Australian it would have been free. The are several reasons why Healthcare is expensive in the US. 1. Americans demand the best healthcare in the world, premium service demands high price. 2. We have a limited number of doctors, surgeons, hospital beds. In fact, fewer doctors per capita than many of the other developed nations. 3. We lack the financial resources as a nation to pay for the services that are actually rendered, and these costs are built into every visit. This includes the percentage of the population which can not afford health insurance, but still goes to the ER when they get in a car accident etc.) 4. Misc reasons: IMO Americans are more likely to be overweight, hypochondriacs, and/or pay with credit and default. Had to take a podium, sorry guys... BTW I'd go for a broken in pair of slippers over these socks anyday. They just remind me of hospitals. "Slickdealer for life"
By the way, Oregon is awesome. Supremely beautiful and NO sales tax! |
