What's pass-thru? Looks like the socket goes through the ratchet instead of snapping onto a drive shaft. Interesting but wouldn't that make it incompatible with everything else?
these sockets are made especially for the ratchet that comes in this case. although there is an adapter so you can convert this ratchet into a normal ratchet with a 3/8" drive head, that's just for convenience of not having to have a separate 3/8" ratchet. the point of these sockets and this set is to work on fasteners that are bolted on a long thread shaft, or if the threaded shaft needs to be held still with an allen key while you tighten the nut (like on many strut towers where the shock's shaft would other wise spin if you don't hold it still with something while tightening the fastener. another example are sensors that have a long wire attached to them; you could thread the wire through this "pass-thru" system in order to fit the socket onto the sensor in order to tighten or loosen it.) having the right tool for the right job is always a great feeling and time saver... you can make due without this in various ways, or by hacking an old socket you don't care about by drilling a slot or a hole into it, but you don't have to worry about that if you have a set like this.
