for slightly more money, you get slightly faster RAM. for monster cables, for a lot more money, you get slightly better audio/video. apples to oranges. |

some people perceive things differently than others. some people benchmark for fun or even for a living. i'm not pushing this RAM on anyone. i'm just providing facts. i've already linked to 2 reputable sources showing applications where the RAM timings make a difference. you're just choosing to ignore them. |

You don't get "slightly" better audio/video with Monster cables. You get the EXACT same kind of audio/video. If you could really even get "sightly" better quality from Monster cables they'd be well worth their price premium. If you could really improve your computer performance by even .5% by using RAM of faster timing, I'd buy it myself. You didn't even read your own sources. I'm not ignoring them, I'm telling you you're ignorant completely mistaken about what those benchmarks mean. Read the conclusions in your own links. You'll notice that a) 8-8-8-24 RAM doesn't outperform "slower timings" even in synthetic benchmarks and b) it makes no difference anyways. Lastly, a drag car that's .0000002 seconds faster than another drag car is .000002 seconds faster IN THE REAL WORLD. Not in some imaginary made up scenario that doesn't translate to any application whatsoever. |

Is it because the luxury cars offer more or those ppl simply wanna show off (to their friends/family/etc)? |

RAM with faster timing is a Hyundai Excel with the Hyundai badges stripped and Lexus badges put on. |

Since you guys seem very knowledgeable about RAM....I'm in the process of building a new PC as parts are on sale and was looking at the Asus P8Z77-V PRO Motherboard and noticed the different speeds of RAM it supports. I know you guys were debating timings, but what about the different speeds of RAM (this Mobo supports: DDR3 2600(O.C.)/2400(O.C.)/2200(O.C.)/2133(O.C.)/2000(O.C.)/1866(O.C.)/1800(O.C.)/1600/1333). Would there be a noticable difference from what seems to be the value DDR 1600 VS say the DDR 1800 or even further the 2600! I'm talking game performance and other demanding tasks. I've been out of the game for 7+ years and appreciate some info on this. Am i wasting my $$$ by going with the 1800 vs the 1600?

Simply put, it is a higher quality car. Don't take me literally, I'm not gonna go research some specific car from each company to compare. But, for demonstrative purposes: Lexus, more expensive because: The seats are leather (OMG!), they have seat warmers (HAX!), hell, it has a built in back massager (whoa!), and! it has automated parallel parking. Hyundai can't do any of those. It's also slower with a smaller weaker motor. Does the Hyundai driver give a shit? Nope. He's happy. Does Lexus driver feel smug and happy? Yep. He's happy. Why don't we leave it at that. If you want a lexus, get a lexus. If you want a hyundai, get a hyundai.
