Tomato USB for E2000 :
1. Download E2000 Std (no USB support; for Linksys E2000 ONLY!)

2. Login into Cisco web interface and flash the firmware.
3. Wait for the flash to complete (5 minutes) then reboot and login with root/admin to configure the router.

1 READ the Peacock Announcement Carefully! http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=51486
2 Disconnect all cables and wireless clients.
3 Do a 30/30/30 reset on router
4 Connect 1 Lan cable to pc doing the flash.
5 Log into Web Interface and flash the firmware 14929 E2000 Trailed Initial Flash Build
6 Wait 10 minutes until WAN light turns on. or you will brick the router.
7 Power cycle by unplugging E2000 for 30 secs.
8 Plug E2000 back in and wait about 5 minutes until it finishes booting.
9 Do a 30/30/30 reset on router.
10 Wait 3 minutes and log into web interface.

Now, after days of investigation, I DID IT
, running both router with Tomato, Version 1.28. as Access Point + WDS
Using steps on the following link,
I use this Security sitting:
Security = WPA2 Personal
Encryption = AES

Same SSID for both and whenever you going toward strong signal your (Laptop, or any wireless device) will catch it.
Please check the TomatoUSB web site [tomatousb.org] for compatible versions of Tomato firmware. For the e2000, appropriate builds will have the router name in the file name.
The E2000 can be flashed with Tomato VPN from here: E2000 Tomato VPN Download Page [tomatousb.org]
And you can follow this guide to setup up VPN: HowToGeek.com's OpenVPN / Tomato VPN setup tutorial [howtogeek.com]

This will allow you to extend the range of your wireless network by connecting two router by WIRE.

Enter "E2000" and it will bring up the latest firmwares. Remember to use an initial flash FW the first time lest you risk turning your new router into a brick.

I already own a N router and get 300mbps. However,streaming 720p and 1080p is like sticking needles in my eyes. Pauses, stutters, freezes. Is this N router going to operate the same as my 'single' band N router. I think I need a GIGABIT DUAL router instead.

This is a good deal btw - $32 is what the price was a year ago on an e2000 from electronica direct but it has rarely dipped back below $35. Also I bought directly through them last time instead of amazon. Strange Great rebate Companies:
Patriot Memory (4myrebate.com): 6 Weeks Tiger Direct (4myrebate): 3 weeks Rain-X (in house): 3 weeks BAD BAD MAIL IN REBATE COMPANIES: Xigmatek 26 weeks, 14 emails, 2 phone calls (finally received) NZXT 21 weeks, 4 phone calls. Check that was finally received was dated 2 months earlier with a 90 day expiration on it, giving me about 25 days to cash it. Shady shady shady. |

THanks for the feedback! I have Time Warner Cable in a suburb house. Router is in basement. I think I have a 10mb down/1mb up which is just the basic cable speed. I did run the wifi scanner in ddwrt software and it picked up about 10 other routers..I changed to channel 1, WPA2, upper band@300mbps. I did try channel 6 and 11, but them were worse and neighbors seemed to use those the most. The router works best on channel 13, but my Touchpad and Wii can not see it. My laptop works fine. So channel 1 it is for now.. It seems to help, but I still get freeze when watching MLB.TV on WDTV box. Also, when viewing 720p movies on my Touchpad upstairs, it stutters. Not so when viewing lesser quality. So I think it might be combo of slow cable speeds and needing faster router..

Picked one up. I'm paying for 50/20 mbit FIOS and only getting 2 MB/s with their shitty g router. Hopefully I can figure out how to hook this up to their router. Apparently with FIOS TV you have to use a Verizon router. Any advice would be appreciated, and I will rep!

The E2500 is only $35 from Newegg as a refurb. Any reason to choose this one over the E2500?

My apt is pretty much wireless, so I'm wondering if the Gigabit ethernet is worthwhile. Also, would DD-WRT/Tomato FW open up the dual band on the E2000? I'm guess it's a hardware thing. |
