God, this site is so bad for my wallet. At least my entire house can be gigabit now.

I have a gigabit switch that I use to connect the wired gigabit computers. Which I assume negates the necessity to have a gigabit router for my wireless stuff. |

I picked this refurb Netgear router up for $19.99 the other day from Newegg. http://slickdeals.net/f/4236696-R...-3pm-19-99
I wonder if I should return it and get this one. As of now, the only reason I even need it is so my smart phone can have wifi while I'm at my apartment. I do also have an xbox 360, so I suppose I could somehow connect it as well? Maybe I'm fine with what I have now. |

The only thing I might suggest is to keep your eye open on compatible power supply adapters for the netgear as they're known to go bad. My friend bought this refurb model a while ago and it went bad after 7 months of use. He never did confirm if it was the power supply or the router itself that went bad. He just ended up getting a Linksys router and its been going strong ever since. |

I already own this E2000 router but do not use it right now. When I moved, TWC made me use their Motorola SBG6580. They don't charge me to rent it and it has been working fine, so I didn't complain. I get around the 30 down/5 up that I pay for out in the living room of my apartment, within ~20 feet of the router. However, my home office is around a corner and down a 30 foot hallway and I'm lucky to get 5/1 that far from the router.
I bought one of the Diamond Multimedia WR300N range extenders and positioned it halfway between the router and office, but but gave up on it after a few days. I was actually getting worse speeds throughout the apartment with it, and I would have to reset it every morning to even get a connection. So I'm still looking for a solution to extend the range of my network without losing a lot of speed. I've searched through the DD-WRT forums but I'm having trouble understanding the router jargon in all the posts, e.g., what's the difference between an access point, a repeater, and a bridge? Which one would be best for me based on my description above? Is it even possible to use the E2000 to extend my network if I am using a different Motorola router, or do they both need to be E2000s with DD-WRT installed? Hoping that fellow SDers can help out with my basic questions and point me to the right places to make this happen. Reps await! TL;DR: Trying to transform my E2000 into a range extender, but stuck with TWC router and having trouble understanding router jargon in help forums. |

http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index....ter_Bridge To explain the choices, access point is the default setting where the router is a hotspot for connecting to the internet. Repeater is the range extender mode. You can think of bridge like a big wifi adapter. You plug in devices using ethernet cables and the bridge router will communicate with the main router. Repeater Bridge is a combination of the two. |

adding tomato on this thing is way cool!. better performance and I like the way it handles as opposed to ddwrt. @ $32 idk because thats the normal price point dont see why all the thumbs up for. Now if this was $26 then hail the front page, but $32 nothing to jump out of your seat unless you need one of these right now and dont have 2 or 3 sitting around like me or others do. A good router but can be a bit lower in price imo.
Saved a buck or two? Thank the OP by repping if you like the post or was helped out You can always Thumb up the deal and rep those that helped you. Found a sour deal or bad deal Click on the Thumbs Down. What would my life and wallet be without slickdeals?
TDMVP73= MM FAR Discombobulated= Super Mario NewEgg Warrior. GoodDay= Twice as nice gotta hear it thrice. CaliStyle= all over the place. EVO-IC= Android apk rom pwner. dj-3xclusive= fleBay daily-deal killer. yuugotserved= got served slickness. |

no n router will stream high def movies perfectly unless you are very lucky and have no outside interference..its just not possible to keep high enough throughput in real world situations. better off using 10/100 wired or gigabit for streaming high def movies..

I have a an e3000(tomato 1.28) as main router and wnr2000v2(Client bridge,dd-wrt) connected to 2.4Ghz channel on the e3000. Great setup. I highly recommend this if you don't have a second router,to give wider range at your home.
