he may have come off as a tad judgemental, but I think all jrdub was trying to say was that - eating out at chiptole, or anywhere else (nearly) every day is expensive, aaand you can save some money on cutting down on that. Dont see anything wrong there. |

Last, you are 100% right that they have more money than me! I'm glad they do because I cannot afford to spend $8.50 for lunch. That is exactly why I am very cautious about spending money! That is also why I frequent slickdeals. Thanks for the response. I'm really not trying to be ride to anyone or tell anyone what to slender their money on. Just bringing up conversation.

For example, if you ate 3000 calories every day of Chipotle Burritos vs 3000 calories of McDonalds calories for a month... I believe the resulting weight gain or change of body will be VERY different given that there is nearly no processing involved in any of chipotle's food... Would be an interesting test I only wish I had an identical twin to do the mcdonalds half >.<

Another thing to keep in mind: How much is that $1.50 lunch -really- costing you. There is an opportunity costs associated with this too. Lets say you make a very modest amount of $25/hr. If it takes you 10 minutes to prepare that lunch, you just spent ~$4 of your time + grocery shopping time. This means that lunch costs you a fair more than you realize. Now, I realize that this isn't always a fair way to look at things, but you can't completely neglect this perspective. I eat out often because it takes me at least ~2 hours to prepare a decent meal (total time == shopping, cooking, dishes)... which means I would've spent considerably more in total for that meal. It makes much more sense for me to spend $6 to $10 to get a better tasting meal from various restaurants... because my free time is worth something to me. [Keep in mind, you can definitely use this same argument against slickdeals. Most people on here definitely have a net loss in expenses because of the opportunity cost wasted in finding a better deal. I'm not saying that people shouldn't be using slickdeals, but you should certainly keep in mind that there might be better uses of your time. If one was trying to maximize net assets, no one would ever spend anytime on slickdeals. You could spend your time elsewhere and make more money than you save.] Last edited by nullstring; 05-01-2012 at 11:34 AM.. |

And good for you that you spend $1.50/day on lunch. Fortunately for me, there are days where I spend $0 on lunch and manage to be satisfied. |

BUT If you cook it in a toaster oven or an oven for 1hr FROM frozen it is delicious. Thawing ahead of time yields a half hour cook time. The tortilla is a little delicate, so they tear easy, but flavor wise no complaints. I do miss the fresh crunch of lettuce and cool cream cheese and sour cream combo though... also if anyone wants a visual of what kind of person orders 50 burritos from chipotle: I'm male, 24 yrs, 5'5" and weigh 117 pounds bahah

I think of that because I get paid for overtime so I make sure I am at work for as many minutes a day I can be. Last edited by jrdub; 05-01-2012 at 11:45 AM.. |

Thank you, OP. I got about 6 gift cards back in Dec 2011. I used some myself and also gave each of my teenaged kids for their lunch with friends and now they are all gone. I will buy 6 more this time, which may not last till Dec this year when they offer the same deal again. We tend to go there more often when there are gift cards so I am not sure if I am saving any money... It is the same when we get Starbucks GC at a discount. It is not a necessity but we need a little break sometimes.
