XPS 8300 vs XPS 8500
Hi guys, just had a quick question. I just bought an XPS 8300 a little less than a month ago, and now I see the new XPS 8500 is out. There doesn't seem to be too much of a difference except it says that they can come with a SSD (which I can't seem to find anywhere when I try to customize) and the 3rd gen i7's. Also the graphics card can't really be changed. Do you think there is a big enough difference between mine to go through the hassle of trying to return it and buying the 8500? I have the i7-2600 (3.4 GHz). The new one is an i7-3770 (3.40 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.90 GHz). The price of the new 8500 also seems to be relatively to same. Thoughts? Thanks!

Yeah... if I were to buy it right now its about $300 more. This one also comes with the Radeon 7570 while mine came with the 6850 (which I believe is better). But I also used a 25% off coupon when I ordered mine, so if I returned this one and just held out until a coupon comes along it would be pretty much the same price (except I would need to pay to upgrade the video card). So overall it would be about $150 more, plus restocking fees (if there are any, never returned a computer before), thats also assuming a coupon would come along some time soon :-/

According to passmark benchmarks, the 3770 CPU scores about 1000points higher, which probably doesn't equate to much real world.
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php However, the 6850 GPU scores nearly 2000 points higher than the 7570, which is probably pretty significant real world, *depending* on what your primary use of the computer is. http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php If I'm not mistaken, the 8300 and 8500 can both come with varying configurations, so we'd need to know the specs and prices of each to give a more accurate answer. I believe I've found the solution to obesity in America. Hemispherectomy....no one uses it anyway.

performance difference isn't that much between sandy bridge and ivy bridge processors of same clock.
if you're within your return period for the purchase, call up dell see if they'll throw you a modest give card instead of going through the hassles of a return and new order. otherwise, just live with it.. because every time you buy, something better WILL come along shortly thereafter... if you keep second-guessing your purchases after the fact, you'll stay stuck in an endless loop.
