Not stupid at all. When I shot 1080 video on my fresh Ultra card, no problems. But then on vacation, with heavy use and deletion of videos, I did start to have video buffer problems. I'm sure it is because the card is fragmented.

Right, but nobody's forcing you to spend $250 on a 32GB CF card.. I mean, do you really need that 69MB/s write?? Haha, I'd say as long as you're above 20-30MB/s, you'll be fine, but the trick is finding the best $$/per GB

i see what you're saying.. the reason is why i'd need that is because if you look at this testing chart: http://robgalbraith.com/bins/came...6007-12451
you'll see that its not worth getting 20-30mb/s.. they have a significant lag in shooting HD video and 80mb raw files. i went further and did my research on some of the less expensive cards and the lexar 400x ones should do the trick.. even the SanDisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s should do the trick. i went to B&H and saw the reviews on those and people successfully use them for D800.. still gonna run me about $150 :/

Well, the buffering happened on a new fresh ultra card. no deletion was ever made on that card. I have several extreme cards. I have never once had an issue with them.

I also noticed with the extreme card, I can take more consecutive pictures. I am not a pro, only a regular user. I am trying to think how to put it. When I use the camera outdoor and trying to take pics of my kids, the continuous mode (?), take several pictures very fast with the extreme card. But definitely slower between snaps with the ultra card.

did I get a bad ultra card??

Maybe? Try doing a speedtest w/ CrystalDiskMark, 5 x 50mb

But as far as the continuous mode, the Extreme is faster than Ultra, about 1.6x the speed

Sure, if you have a card reader equipped. You do know that USB flash is typically slower than the slowest hard drives, in writing and long sequential reads, right? Flash cards/sticks only really beat traditional mechanical hard drives in random reads. The rating of these cards refer to its sequential read and write speeds.
