I've had this attachment for many years and use it on a regular basis. I must say I'm confused by the negative feedback cited and posted in this thread. I've never had to freeze anything to get a good grind with this thing (mostly pork, beef, turkey, chicken, and lamb go through it.) Mine also doesn't get clogged, although I do push a slice a bread through at the end to get out the last oz. of meat. I have had the blade get a bit bound up with connective tissue (not fatty tissue) but that's only with cuts that have crazy tough connective tissue (like gizzards).
Maybe I just got a good one or the quality has fallen in the last 4 or so years? |

Just fill with salt and ice for ice cream (or dry ice and alcohol... LN2!) And you can also use it for keeping things warm or warming as you mix.. |

I wonder if Kohls with PM this.... got my Kitchenaid 600 mixer from them back in December via Amazon PM (lol). I went through a lot of trouble with that, and even tried getting the grinder attachment but no go (that was off an attempted Sears PM too I think! EDIT: actually, it was Lowes, not Sears...). I have a lot of Kohls cash left over from that deal. Would be pretty sweet if they PM it plus get another % off and use up my Kohls cash.
Anybody tried this yet? EDIT: I guess the other caveat is that your Kohls B&M needs to have these in-stock. I haven't stepped foot in a Kohls since December so I have no idea haha. Kohls.com doesn't even have the FGA listed (it has the combo packs where FGA comes with other attachments, but not the FGA alone). I wonder if my local Kohls would even have this. I've had this attachment since Christmas. I also use the larger tray becasue it makes everything a little easier. We use it for two primary reasons. First, we use it to blend meats so I'll put chicken, turkey, or venison through on a course grind. Then I grind up some regular sausage or lean beef. Finally, we do a second grind with the fine grinder bit and mix everything together. It eliminates some of the health benefits of using turkey or chicken but it also makes them taste much better.
Second, we spoil our dogs. My in-laws freeze all their leftovers or misc. meat right before it goes bad and give it to us for our dogs. Before I clean up our grinder I will run all the scraps/meat chunks/hamburger/chicken/stirfry/etc into the grinder. If it is thawed enough to cram it in the grinder, it won't have a problem grinding it. Then we mix in a little of our mystery grind with their dinner. If the meat is very wet I've had the grinder squirt liquid a couple feet out the end. It was quite a surprise to my wife when she ended up with wet spots all over her clothes becasue she stood in front of it. Otherwise no complaints. |
