if you have your own treadmill or if your gym won't give you problems, go for a run in socks or barefoot. You will notice (*IF you previously ran with heel first*) your form change, you will unknowingly hit your forefoot first. If you like it then buy the vibrams, if not then you saved $.

I switched from New Balance running shoes and a pair of nike's to the Bikila. I felt an immediate different. The shoes are so lite and for me, made a huge difference. I ran my first marathon with them and loved them... BUT you need to easy you way into them. Very easy to mess your feet up if you put too much time in them at the beginning!

I recommend trying the LS on before you order online, I wear a 43 Bikila and I bought a 43 Bikila LS and it fit way too tight, the 44 was way too loose so I might be an oddball but i recommend trying first.

i run in socks on a treadmill because shoes kill my knees. does anyone know which shoe is the closest to just wearing socks with a little padding out of all these new types (five fingers, nike free, reebok flex, etc.)

It takes months to properly adapt your feet and legs to running in FF, especially if you are old like me (turned 40 in December). I've been running in Bikilas (on pavement) for about 10 months, and I have increased my distance at a glacial rate - I'm only up to 1.7 miles. If I try to increase my distance too quickly, my ankles force me to cut back. That being said, however, running feels better to me now that it ever has before in my life - including when I ran cross country in high school and college. I've always been plagued by shin splints, but that problem simply disappeared when I got my Bikilas.
TLDR - running in FF can be life-altering, but it takes extreme patience and commitment.

I use the KSO's for the barefoot feel. You can feel everything you walk on. Even feels like wearing less than a sock.

The Treksports have considerably more heavy duty tread and are much better option for trail running or everyday use.

Yeah, you're really supposed to take your time. I started in January and have escalated as far as 8 miles in my Bikilas but I think that was too fast...I just dropped back to my big heavy clunkers for a 16.1 mile race last weekend, and now am going to try to build back more slowly in the FF...

I have a pair of Komodo sports and they are very, very good. I don't think I would like the Bikila's or KSO's after running in my Komodo's.
