This is specs also pulled from another website...

Right -- so how many watts to each of the 5 channels? (2 * 95 / 5 = 38?)

Its 95 x 5 but it's measured with two channels running. This measurement style inflates wattage numbers which is common among other brands like denon, onkyo, yamaha. When you run all 5 channels the watts will decrease so you will not get 95 x 5. 85 x 5 would be a good guess with all channels running. HK used to measure wattage with all channels running so their numbers were vastly underrated.

FTC (federal trade commission) rating requires testing of only 2 channels for advertising purposes

Here is a test by hometheater magazine of a denon avr-2112 receiver which is rated at 90 watts...you can see how addition speakers drop the power

It's plenty enough to drive 5 channels and add in your own powered sub

Depends on what you are trying to power.

I jumped on the Martin Logan Motion 12 floorspeakers from newegg for $250 after I listened to them at Magnolia's in Bestbuy which sounded amazing. I'm currently running a pair with the Denon 2312 which is rated at 105W..but to me, it doesn't power the speakers loud enough (the speakers are 4 ohm nominal). Probably get an Onkyo 709 or 809.

But if you are just going to watch 5.1 movies with 8 ohm speakers from a 5.1 speaker set..this receiver should be fine.
