I got one of these before for my Macbook Pro- connected it to a 32" LCD and all it showed was my desktop background. Wouldn't show any icons or windows. Perhaps I'm not smart enough to operate it, but if I can't use it to connect an external monitor for web browsing, watching videos or running programs, it has no value to me.

It creates a separate desktop so you have to click and drag your windows over from your MacBook desktop to your second desktop (the tv). Hope that helps.

Thank you to dreamexecution and bainsstatic. When I got the adapter, I just plugged it in and tried it out- didn't investigate further. This information is very helpful. I'll look into the mirror mode and the click and drag option.
