Yes. I have a XFX 6870 and hooked this combo up plugged it into my TV and it work no problem.

This is so funny, you are running in extended desktop, not mirror mode. If it shows your background, it's working already. You can switch it to mirror mode if you want, if you move your mouse over the edge, you would have seen your cursor.

Ordered one. Thanks. Not sure the audio feature is going to work on my gf's but if it doesn't I'll just splice the cable and connect a 3.5 mm jack to the audio wires.

OK just a general FYI FWIW: I haven't used one of these specific Meritline adapters, but I have had experience with other inexpensive mini-displayport adapters, and more often then not you absolutely get what you pay for. It might work right away, but later they often fail. Avoid Monoprice like the plague in this regard - plenty of other stuff at Monoprice works very well, but not their mini-displayport adapters. If I had to guess, I would assume the same to be true for Meritline. If you see reviews somewhere that hint at this lack of reliability, believe them.

BTW mostly this has to do with lack of full compliance from manufacturers with DPCP standards.

The cheapest reliable (at least so far) cable brand I found was Accell. The Apple brand ones are also reliable. Maybe Meritline will work OK, and maybe for longer than several months, but Buyer Beware.

I bought one of these about a year and a half ago and it still works great. I currently use it to connect my laptop to an external monitor (and therefore I connect and disconnect it a lot) and it's handled all my abuse.

I know thunderbolt is ridiculously fast, but it is not affordable for the average user. USB 3.0 should've been integrated sooner then to tb when tb becomes more mainstream.
