Looks like lots of CM7 and CM9 development on these.. decided to get one to try it out. Thanks Selma!

Have had an Epic for 18months - they do have a great dev community, CM7 and CM9 are both working very well. There are also alternate carrier flash guides for many of the MVNO's if you are wanting to use on VM, Boost, Cricket, etc.

FYI, these Epic's can take the Epic II batteries as a OEM extended battery with the stock back cover. (takes it from 1500mah to 1800mah and yeilds great battery life)

I really care about getting great reception and quick gps lock. How is the epic in these two aspects? Also can i still use 4G under CM7 or CM9?

Reception blows on this phone.(reception with Sprint in general also blows) However- if you root the device you can install an app called roam control which forces you into roaming mode so you at least get some kind of signal. GPS isnt the best either unless you root and download a custom rom that forces connection to more satellites.

I will say for $60, you cant get a better phone though. Galaxy S phone with gorilla glass and a slide out keyboard is a great deal.

I have this phone right now and I will say you root it, install either AOKP or CM9 and you'll be golden. The screen is gorgeous, it's great to have the option of a slideout keyboard when you need it and the screen with some Vodoo Sound/Color is gorgeous. Lively community over at XDA [xda-developers.com]. GPS is fine with these and as to antennae? I think it depends where you are. I typically get 8-10Mbps on 4G all day at work. On another note, what do these Cowboom phones look like? Are they garbage? I wanted one for my son and it'd be great to get it now so I can save the upgrade for the fall Iphone 5/Android shootout when I feel great deals on great phones all with LTE will be in effect.
