WFargo 30K reward points gave @#$%

I am in the same boat as you. Been a Wellsfargo card holder for over 10years and been enrolled in their reward program since then. This might sound stupid but I feel like if I enroll in a better reward program, such as BOA, it will makes me want to swap my card more, and the extra reward would not be able to cover the few extra spending I make.

There are better reward programs out there, and unlike me if you can control your spending and the reward doesn't effect how you spend, shop around for a better reward card.

Depending on your categories, you got screwed.

Look at your year-end summaries to see where you are spending most.

I use the Chase Freedom for many things and the Amazon.com card for everything else.
Freedom gets 5% in rotating categories and Amazon gets 3% at Amazon, 2% Gas/Dining and 1% everywhere else.

Other cards in my wallet:
Chase Ink Cash (for my small business)
Discover Open Road (I don't use it)
Citi Rewards Silver (my first CC, I don't use it)
Sony Card (I don't use it, but I'm going to keep it for the 0% foreign transaction fee)

I've been considering an Amex, but I don't see any real benefit other than the prestige factor.

My spending is much higher than your spending, but you should still earn (and redeem) rewards every month. I do not ever let them carry over month to month, much like I never carry a balance. The cash should be in my investment account, not sitting in points. Redeem as early as you can every time and put the cash to work.

If you're looking for a new card, the chase southwest airlines' 50k bonus is pretty awesome. Southwest points go FAR.

Here's my recommendation-

Chase Freedom - 1% back on everything (with no minimum spend before you get 1%.. discover has a minimum, not sure about WF), and 5% on rotating categories. They also have a bunch of affiliate stores online that you can get 5% or better with (Electronics stores, flowers, gifts, etc). Chase is the card I use if I can't get more than 1% from anything else. You can also get $300 for signing up for a new card (not sure if this promo is still going, you can Google it though. You can get at least $200 if you spend a certain amount in the first 3 months).

Discover Card - 1% back after a minimum amount spent, 5% back on rotating categories throughout the year. I use this only for the 5% categories. This year, restaurants are 5% all year. Other categories can be groceries, department stores, gas, theme parks, etc.

Blue Cash Everyday American Express - This is my next card to get. 1% back on all purchases (not sure if there's a minimum spend for that), 3% back year-round on groceries, 2% back year-round on gas. $100 sign-up bonus. This would be good for when you can't get 5% back from Discover or Chase.

These cards all have no annual fee, so you never have to cancel your card (and hurt your score), and you don't need to annually evaluate whether or not the annual fee is worth the extra rewards.

Currently I have about $350 worth of points on the Chase account, and around $100 on Discover.

You can also sell your points to various companies online (be careful with this though, and make sure the company is reputable). This can get you around 1.2 times the amount you would get from the credit card company. So your $300 could get you $360. Not bad.
