Dell Inspiron 14R 14" i5-2430M Laptop $354.50 AC @ Staples YMMV

I picked up one of these in SoCal last Friday. They didn't have any new models listed anywhere in their region/district but all the display models were very clean, strong hinges, no broken keys, etc. This store also didn't use metal cages bolted around their display models so they weren't all gouged up. When they pulled this Dell from the rear it only had some smudges and fingerprints and still had some of the protective film on it.

One thing I was concerned about was a display model sitting turned on for a long period of time but looking up the specs it has an LED backlit display which nullified my biggest concern. The conventional CCD (cold cathode-tube display) fluorescent backlights tend to lose brightness over time but the LEDs backlights do not.

The only other thing I noticed is after getting home and plugging the service tag into Dell's web site they already showed the warranty active with ~260 days of the year remaining. I haven't dealt with them for open box purchases but I'm not too worried even if it doesn't have a full year. If something would have broken it more than likely would have already done so.


Thanks for the heads up on the deal. If anyone else can find one and still get a $100 off coupon in the future jump for it. It is a lower end model but the specs are nice and it seems screwed together fairly well.

Yes!! (Sort of.) I went today, willing to pay the $450, and when it rang up it spit out a huge receipt and the guy said, "Oh it looks like there's a $100 rebate"!
