This isn't an LED projector, and LED has nothing to do with the resolution (it's the backlight).

I've got a $1000+ 46" Samsung LCD in the family room. It's nice, real nice.

Just this week I installed an Optoma HD20. Picked it up for $650 (my thread). All I can say is wow. Having to view something on my 46" LCD is now a drag. 120" of 1080P simply cannot be compared to a regular HDTV.

I've used the Optoma for playing MW3 and it was amazing and immersive (my entire field of view is the screen). We watched Ghost Protocol on it a few nights ago and it was amazing - not seeing any justification to spend $12/ticket at a theater ever again. Seriously, if you have the space and the right conditions (we have a dedicated home theater room) then a projector is the only way to go.

As for being on the way out ... yeah right. You can easily pump the picture to 200" on many of these projectors. I'm guessing that more and more folks are building spaces big enough to accommodate much larger screen sizes. I'm already dreaming of my next custom house.

As for this projector - looks like a good deal. If you want to save $350 I would recommend checking out the thread on the HD20.

Art had the Panasonic PT-AR100U as the top pick for a low cost 2D so I asked him how it compared to this projector. Here is his response:

That is one interesting question. Off the top of my head, I really am not sure. The only way I can answer 50 emails a week, is by sticking to one rule. Everything from memory. When I go to start confirming this fact, or that opinion, a 3 minute answer becomes 10-15...

So, I really liked the LG for the brightness. Regarding blacks neither is close to being ultra high contrast. You'd have to look at that Acer H9500BD, for a few hundred more (and DLP).

But, despite the brightness of the LG, the Panny must be even brighter. It has more zoom range if that's important. I don't recall if the LG has lens shift (it has vertical lens shift), the Panny does (it has vertical and horizontal lens shift).

I don't know. If you need the lumens, the Panny's likely the better choice. I'd really have to re-read the LG review, and look at some images to see which has the better blacks, and other things. For gaming - my money would be on the Panny. Both, if I recall correctly calibrate well.

Panny's warranty is a year, but then, I think the LG is too, but it might be longer...

At this point, off the top of my head, perhaps one strength of the LG (for some buyers) is that it is not the Panasonic, that is, it's not the projector everyone else has... The Panny is probably the #2 selling home projector out there, that old Optoma HD20 probably still outsells it, then a couple of Epsons... The LG has very minimal distribution, and I know nothing about their support.

I have had excellent customer support from Epson, having at one point owned both the Epson 8350 and the 8700ub. At this price point the Epson 8350 is also a good pick. But then again I have not seen the pic quality from this projector. And unfortunately comparing the specs like contrast ratio from one projector (especially different brands) is dumb, even the lumens number.

That is for the OEM equivalent made by diamond is 115.00
EAQ43069401 / AJ-LAF1 OEM is 196.00
