Computer Is Crashing.
I've been having a problem lately where My computer completely freezes and crashes, usually when I'm playing a game. My computer freezes, there is no blue screen and any sound coming from my speakers skip rapidly. I am only able to hold the power button to turn it off and restart. Is possible that my computer is overheating? My computer specs are below. Thanks.Specs: ASRock P67 Extreme4, i5 Sandy Bridge 2500k, two 9800gt SLI, 8 gigs ripjaws ddr3 ram. |

The place to start is to take the side off and disconnect, clean and reconnect everything. There's actually a good chance that'll fix it. PS: A can of contact cleaner spray is priceless for this job. |

Likely is what you suspected..HEAT!!!
Add fan(s)... pointed directly at the GPU's Also look at your cable management and airflow. Last edited by boltman2007; 05-04-2012 at 04:12 PM.. |

What type of video card (and OS) do you have? Also what game is it and does it ONLY happen when playing the game?
You can probably find some useful info in your Event Viewer (if not familiar, from admin command prompt, type: eventvwr - then look for recent errors under Windows Logs) |

With no BSOD it is most likely heat or power related. You don't mention what PSU you have, but I'd hope it's a decent one with SLI 9800GTs.
Rockys suggestion to clean and check all your connections is a good one. Might just be some dust causing you to overheat or short a connection. |

I'm not so convinced about it being heat, as heat usually just shuts the machine down, as opposed to freezing up.
You need only download coretemp or CPUid's hardware monitor, to check your temps. If you're running up in the 90's or more, then it very well could be heat, but that's not my guess right now. Often times, it's as simple as removing the ram and cleaning it to solve a problem of this nature. Anyhow, we'll soon know. Just to be clear, I'm not saying that it can't be a heat problem. I just don't think it is, going by what you described. |

When your system freezes- Does the number lock key still working ? I mean if you press number lock key - the LED indicator light will change ? If yes- that mean you might focus on trouble shooting VGA card since your M/B is still alive but video went bad. If not- them you might start from PSU or M/B.
But no matter how- a air gun cleaning up is a must and I do suggest you do it regularly. And also check if more heat sink compound is need. |

To prove or disprove a heat problem, remove the side panel of the case and blast a big table fan into the computer. If the computer now operates reliably, try the things suggested to make the inside run cooler.. Sometimes reversing each case fan, one at a time, will help. But heat can also decrease the power supply's maximum capacity, by 15-33%, according to PC Power & Cooling (25C vs. 40C)
It seems a 9800GT graphics card needs up to about 110W of power, an I5 2500K roughly the same, and maybe the rest of the system consumes up to 50W. While 350W doesn't sound like much, power supply ratings vary a lot in truthiness, so what PSU do you have, not just its power rating but also brand and model? Can you make the computer lock up by running the games with the case side panel removed while having a friend sweep a hair dryer over the memory modules? This can't harm them because they're rated for 85C. Or at least try running with half the modules removed. I'm just wondering if no-name memory chips, like those inside the Ripjaws, live down to their reputation. |

Try running speedfan to check temps http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
everest is good to ccheck status of system hardware http://www.softpedia.com/get/Syst...tion.shtml |

Hey Fellow Sders, this one happens on my laptop this morning. It won't display anything while booting up, only the power indicator is lit up but the hard drive light does'nt even blink. I tried pressing F5, F10, F11, ctrl+alt+del, while rebooting but to no avail. Is it time to bring to a computer repair shop? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If that doesn't work, then something more serious is going on. |
