Yea. They always cover themselves. Someone posted on SD a while ago that if your denied your rebate that OD will refund or give your rebate or something. lol Doing OD rebates make me truly grateful to Staples haha.

Worked fine in Florence, KY today around 6:30PM manager came over called BB to verify gave me no issues with the rebate either......he even pointed it out......my buddy got the same thing.

It's not so much caring about the rebate, as it is the fact that the store ate a loss on the price match, while you're coming out ahead.

Stores usually do a price match in the hopes that it'll convince you to shop there instead of the place you're matching - the "I would buy it at BB, but I would much rather give my money to OD" argument. In other words, they consider the initial loss an investment - which leaves a bad taste in their mouths when it turns out you're just in it for the quick buck.

I really don't think Office Depot is eating a loss on the Best Buy price-match.

The price per unit for Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security 3 User 2012 is probably pretty darn low at this point.

If Best Buy can afford to sell it at $30 per copy with no rebates.... and Newegg can sell it for $15 + a Free 8 GB Flash Drive Shipped.... then it has to be dirt cheap.

Last year, Trend Micro released this product in August 2011. That means they have roughly 3 months to make a final sales push.

considering staples and newegg.com had FAR trend micro for the past 3 months, the actual value of TM products might be low that they are flooding the market with "cheap or free" softwares.

I called OD to order over the phone with PM to BB's price, but was denied three separate times, but not because of the rebate. Each agent told me that Office Depot does not match competitors' sale prices, only regular prices.

The first time, I thought it was just an uninformed agent and I didn't feel up for the challenge of schooling him on his own company's PM policy, so I figured it would be easier just to cancel the order and try again later. I was taken aback when the second agent gave me the same story after confirming BB's sale price, so I thought that perhaps the PM policy had indeed changed.

After ending the second call, I checked OD's Low Price Guarantee [officedepot.com] PM policy online and confirmed that it had not changed, so armed with that information I was ready to give it another go. Sure enough, the agent on the call regretfully informed me that she could not process the price match on BB's sale price. I quoted her the "How does our Price Match Guarantee work for online and catalog purchases?" section of OD's PM policy, pointing out that it does not specify that they match regular prices only, but she reiterated (almost word for word) her refusal to honor the PM.

I politely asked to speak with her supervisor, and after placing me on hold for a few minutes, she returned to the line to inform me that her supervisor was still engaged with another customer, but she could honor the price match as a one-time courtesy. I could not get her to match BB's free shipping offer as well, but I was able to place the order for in-store pickup.

So the point of this was to ask, has anyone else had issues PMing competitor's sale prices over the phone with OD?

Yeah, I always have issues matching sale prices over the phone with OD.

They always say "we don't match sales prices or instant rebates, only regular prices."
It usually takes a supervisor escalation to get anything done. But then again, on the weekends especially, you're more than likely speaking to someone in another country.
