Tnx, OP. Ended up going with more expensive 5000 series toothbrush [amazon.com] to complement my Phillips Soncare DiamondClean. My dentist has been commenting on these rounds ones, so I think I made a mistake by going with Phillips wich has a standard tootbrush like in your post. Going to be fun comparing the two.

i got a $10 off coupon from oral b when my last toothbrush failed, I took a picture, threw it on imgur and amazon wouldn't accept it
.Anyone know how much these go for retail? Is it worth me trying to use this $10 coupon or should I just bite the bullet and buy this? I've been using the pulsonic for about a month as a manual toothbrush. [edit] screw it, not worth the gas and tax, ordered. Last edited by ratherDashing; 05-05-2012 at 09:46 AM.. |

I think DiamondClean works very well, but my dentist said he prefers Oral-B due to smaller round head. Mind you DiamondClean brushes aren't huge, they're pretty small, almost kid sized, so you can definitely work it in your mouth. Both brushes are also very well reviewed on amazon. Can't wait to try Oral-B out. Price of a toothbrush, yes it was a lot but, my grill, after braces, multiple surgeries, and crowns, is costing me $50k so my teeth are very important to me. I paid $3k for fillings alone in 10 years of my adult life and I don't think my dental hygiene is terrible. So compared to overall cost, to me it's a small investment to make. |

Did you get the $20 off with that combo? |

BTW, I'm liking my DiamondClean better. Which one cleans better is hard to say, they're almost even but I think DiamondClean does slightly better job. Like one reviewer said, your teeth feel like glass after you're done. *DiamondClean has a very nice travel case which can also charge it via USB cable. Very nice on the road, you can even charge it through your laptop. Oral-B 5000 has a cheap plastic travel case which doesn't have charger built in, but has ventilation ports for water to evaporate. The only way to charge it is through 120V base. *DiamondClean body is slightly slimmer, making it more comfortable to hold it in your hand and work it. Just a slight advantage, no big deal overall. *DiamondClean heads have longer and thinner shaft. Also the head itself has a smaller profile just like kids brushes. Oral-B heads have shorter and thicker shafts (moving parts inside), also the head itself is slightly more bulky due to spinning mechanism sitting on top of head. This again, translates to being able to brush more comfortably with DiamondClean. Nice, long, thin toothbrush profile that you can work in your mouth with your mouth lazily halfway closed, not so much with Oral-B, takes a bit more space in your mouth. *DiamondClean creates very fine side to side vibration. So if you're brushing horizontally for example, the brush head bristles move up and down slightly VERY fast, scrubbing your teeth. Oral-B 5000 instead rotates the whole head about quarter turn back and forth very fast. Both do pretty good job at cleaning, but Oral-B causes so much vibration on your teeth it feels like you're running a grinder over them. My estimate is Oral-B causes twice as much vibration in your mouth as DiamondClean. *DiamondClean has lights that show you what mode you're using. Oral-B doesn't, you have to memorize which mode follows which, and there's 5 of them I think, very lazy design. On the other hand, Oral-B has a dedicated button for mode select and one for power on/off while DIamondClean has only one button which turns on/off and selects mode, not as good. *Oral-B has at least %30 cheaper brush heads over DiamondClean. There's a lot of complaining how Phillips jacked up brush head prices with DiamondClean. They vibrate so fast, they wear out fast. Expect to be replacing them every month or so depending on how much you brush at $10 a pop. *Oral-B has pressure mechanism where it will cut power if you press too hard to prevent wearing out your teeth. I don't think DiamonClean has anything like that, you just have to be light and not force it. Keep in mind, I only used Oral-B for less than a week, while I've been using DiamondClean for over two months now. I'm really used to DiamondClean at this point and that's probably a big reason why I'm not liking Oral-B as much. They will both clean your teeth good, but at this point I'm liking DiamondClean better, it's more comfortable and convenient for me. |
