Yeah, wish we had Fry's around here. Only catch is that some stores are out and offering open box or demo units.

Can some suggest
I have a Sony DAV-HDX575WC with amplifier and back wireless remote speakers
The only issue is that it does not have HDMI inputs.
Is it worth replacing with Denon -1712?

Also with my system, i never heard any from my back speakers when I connect TV output to amplifier- conncted through RCA (I use this 99% of the time)

Will Denon 1712 give better sound quality sound ?

If you connect your TV output via RCA you are only sending an analog signal to the receiver, so you won't be getting the surround signal which the receiver can then decode and send to your rear speakers.

The Denon will give you much better sound quality if you run audyssey room calibration than any receiver in its price range. Any receiver will be a steup if you can get a digital signal. perhaps pass a coax or optical line from your current tv to your current receiver. or upgrade and use hdmi, provided that your tv has reverse audio feedthru.

I am buying 1612 for $179 as it appears to have same features as 1712 (I have only 5 speakers)- may be 1612 does not have XT. But may give more power.

Also I liked the idea of passing optical signal from TV- But whenever I used optical cable it is giving loose uneven sounds and i droped that idea

It will output the same power when used in 5.1 like the 1612. I got the 1712 and I am only using the a 5.1 system. I wanted the XT and when I bought it the difference was like $50 so I went with the 1712 but the 1612 is really good too for the price you can get it.

I got AVR 1612. The main issue appears that it needs powered sub woofer where as my present home theater system - Sony HX575WC has a standard subwoofer w/o power.

Surprisingly it was never indicated on any of the specs and can be understood only by experts and not novices like me

How can you compare this against Onkyo NR 609?

I think you'll get a lot more from the Onkyo for the price. Not sure how cheap you can find the NR 609 for now, but the HT-RC360 is on sale at newegg for $280. Very similar feature set to the NR609. This is a decent price for the Denon, but if you're going to get a Denon you're much better off saving up and getting a 1912/2112. Denon is touted for superior audio clarity, but on these lower priced models they really don't stand out. The HT-RC360 has a lot more features.

The Onkyo will have network connection but will only have Audyssey 2EQ as opposed to the MultiEQ XT of the 1712. It is going to boil down to what you value most. Network connectivity or better sound. I upgraded from an Onkyo 606 to the 1712 and the Denon sounds better. I liked the MultiEQ XT a lot and helped a lot with my room. The 1912 adds network but drops to MultiEQ so you would need to go to the 2112 to get the same as the 1712 and the network. I did not need the network at all since I have the TV and the blue ray connected and only use the blue ray. If u need upscaling then the Onkyo will be better but i did not need it so the 1712 made more sense and I am happy with it. Plus it runs cooler than the Onkyo. For what I have read on AVS the 609 still runs really hot and has several issues so if you get the 609 make sure is poperly cooled and you will avoid a lot of problems. I bought a laptop cooler to put on top and never had a problem with the 606 but it would warm up a lot my room and since I am on the desert it was not good during the summer Dennon is a lot better and I am not using the cooling pad
