GPU Fan Stuck at 100%?
I recently upgraded to an SSD and windows 7. Somewhere along the way my Gigabyte Radeon HD 3870 (has the "stock" aftermarket Zalman cooler) has become stuck on 100% and is noisy as hell when it was quiet before. I tried using MSI Afterburner but changing fan speed has no effect on it, whereas before it was working. I tried in CCC but there wasn't even an option to adjust fan speed like there was supposed to be in the overclocking section. I have updated drivers, even tried old drivers but nothing seems to work. I even tried taking it out and re-installing. Am I SOL here? It was a really quiet card but now it's a freakin jet engine. I am not sure what to do.Thanks. |

Have you blown the dust out of the heatsink?
Steve Gibson on password policies [grc.com]: I mean, I don't get this change it every eight weeks. ... It's not as if passwords are traveling by camel after they've been stolen, going to the bad guys, and so there's, like, some weird eight-week window, like, oh, we're going to change your password so that the stale password no longer works. ... And all this does is make IT people despised because users, who are not dumb, they think, why am I - why do I have to do this? What problem is this solving?

I saw that many others have had the same problem. http://www.techpowerup http://www.tomshardwar One of the potential cures is to use RivaGuru which is a program I have used many times for overclocking and it's stable and reliable, so you may be able to get some type of resolution with it by manually setting the fan speed at a level that keeps it cool enough without sounding like a jet airplane. |

A noisy computer can drive you crazy. If you don't really need the extra graphics from that card, you stick it in a drawer and forget about it. Why make yourself crazy with puter headaches if you don't need to. |
