comments re type of phone for trade in? ad says base and hand unit....does that mean base and handset only or perhaps old corded or base only without handset???

Since it says "base and hand unit", then "base only without handset" would seem to be the opposite of that.

On the other hand, they just dump all the phones, so chances are they would accept a complete corded phone. The store managers really do not care.

I lucked out ... . I raced and was there at 8.58pm. Bought with 25/75 (donated by one of the SDers). Manager assured me that he can do trade next day.
I went there today. Another manager has no problem to do, when I showed last week's flyer. I asked him to do exchange than return/buy for the rebate to be valid. He said that could be the issue. Nice surprise - He did price adjust with complete rebate amount deducted. Think, that's why we all here love Staples.

Just wanted to give my experience on the trade-in. I ordered online with a 25 off 75 coupon and received it the other day. I went to Staples today and the people had no idea how my online order worked with the in-store trade-in (I guess corporate forgot to mention that info to them. Nice.). Manager didn't even know.

I brought a printout of the trade-in program with the explanation (same as the green picture in the wiki but includes the terms). http://www.staples.com/sbd/cre/pr...index.html That helped them a bit, but they still had no idea how to do it. They were going to do a return/rebuy but I told them to stop because I had an easy-rebate already submitted (and wanted to keep my 25 off coupon too).

Finally, I had them call the online people (number is on the packing slip). In about 1 minute, problem was solved and my card was being credited $20. Manager simply talked to the CSR, gave them my order number and confirmed I was trading in a phone. Done.

Long story short, if they have a confused look on their face, tell them to call the online people and they'll take care of it in no time. Good luck!

I was thinking more base and phone and additional handset...that is how I read the ad...base unit and phone and additional handset

Can anyone confirm about whether corded phones are eligible for trade in or Only Cordless? …or its just YMMV based on the manager..?

Last year they have advertised as recycle program here [staples.com] which explicitly says that "Recycled phone may be corded or cordless."
This year here [staples.com] it says...trade in and the terms look similar without that corded or cordless info at the end.

I am going to receive phone today. Is it still eligible for doing trade in for online purchase and subsequent to get rebate.

Simple Yes

Did the trade in with packaging slip. Sales rep did something in register by talking to staples support and generated receipt for $0. I just gave them extra hand set instead of base. Is someone going to check them later?
