If it chokes on big files it is probably because it is formatted to FAT32 which has a maximum individual file size around 4 GB.

Format the drive to NTFS and shouldn't have any problems with file size, but some basic equipment like car radios with USB drives, they usually need FAT32 file format.

It will hold near it's stated capacity (less FAT, etc. though that goes for any thumb/flash drive of course), but...

Cons: Large files (7~13 GB tested) it will not handle, ranging from errors that there isnt the capacity available (despite it being the first and only file on the drive -- well it would be the only file if it had worked) and what I believe is the USB/NAND controller implementing compression.

The best way I can explain the issue is for those of whom may remember old MS DOS DoubeSpace (later known as DoubleDrive). It slowed the speeds of the hard drive down significantly and if there was just a little bit of corruption or bad sectors on your hard-drive, bam, all data was inaccessible or simply lost.

Think -that- way in what problems I have experienced. Manufacturers are purposely scrapping off the part codes of the NAND's, as those of us who have gotten wise to their tactics can tell clearly, that if it's an 8 GB NAND, but, is a 32GB thumb/flash drive, obviously compression is going on behind the scenes with the onboard controller. Spread the knowledge so they stop ripping us off!

Can someone whose tried it with LARGER MEDIA FILES (that are already under heavy compression) please assure us that there is not "compression" done by the Controller of the flash drive.

I am wondering if this guy did not realize that the FAT32 had to be changed to NTFS etc for larger files.

Cons: Can't handle large files and has slow write speed. (See "Other Thoughts" For Details)

Other Thoughts: I bought this flash drive to hold movies in MKV format ranging in size from 6 GB to 12 GB. When I attempted to copy any large file to the drive I got a message stating that the file was to big for the drive. Small files it can handles, large files it cannot. I returned the drive to Newegg for a replacement. The second drive gave me the exact same result. I contacted the manufacturer via email and it’s now ten days and they have still not responded so I figure this is a common problem that they’d rather not address. I have returned the second drive for credit.

Additionally, I found the read speed to be much lower than their stated “Up to 30 MB/S”. When I loaded smaller files onto the drive the speed started out at 22 and quickly dropped to 17.

If you want to load lots of small files onto this drive, go for it. If it’s large file storage you want, forget about it.
