It's actually a good learning tool if you can limit exposure to it. He watches a highly ranked word-reading development video for 20min during breakfast (preschool prep series) and then just plays some games that teach him animals, counting, colors/shapes, etc. Absolutely don't want him hooked on "the screen" and especially not video games. He uses it at most about 5hrs a week, but I anticipate that going up a bit as he starts learning math and languages using the apps. The interactivity is better than just watching a TV program and they think they're just playing a game! The key is for you to at least watch/play along with the kid at least half the time, the kid and the device alone all the time is not good. And it just seems that the Nook has a better selection of kid-friendly apps. I rather see 100 very high quality apps than a 10,000 crappy ones that I have to sort through to get to maybe 100 high quality apps (android mkt). |

"Not valid on any desktop or laptop computers, netbooks, tablets, eReaders including Amazon Kindle and NOOK by Barnes and Noble," Did your coupon have the same restrictions? From what I understood from other members on SD is that online coupons all have these restrictions, hence the in-store coupon which does not have that restriction. My nearest Staples is a ways away, so that might kill the deal for me... Any more information you can add will be much appreciated. |

Thanks for deal. Rep
Going to make a great mothers day gift. Fire vs Nook. I've had the fire and I think it is awful out of box. So limited because of amzn world. The nook will be so much better because of netflix and hulu. I watched the 8gb nook vs 16gb nook. I don't think that 1sec or less will kill my mom's experience. I'm not an app user either and I doubt she will be too. Plus, I'm invested in the B&N library and I will load the NT with my account to share. Also, NT is focused as and ereader with tablet features. As an ereader the NT can do more with the fonts and how it displays the text. Not to mention B&N is a book company. They are focused on making books for an e-reader. Their children books have mor features. Where as the Fire is an entertainment streamer. But if you don't have Amzn Prime then it's more of a waste. Plus, the hyped up browser is awful slow too. I sent the Fire back to Amzn. Much more happy with my Playbook as a tablet for my web browsing/email. Out of box (because I'm not going to maintain whatever hacks for my mom since I can't even keep up with my own) the NT is better because she is an avid reader. Plus, it takes epub files. And she watches crazy tv shows sooo Hulu+ is a win. |
