Profitable yes, but fake? No.
The author uses an eye catching headline but says nothing to substantiate the "fake" allegation. It's entirely normal for manufacturers to make more money when the demand for their product is greater than the supply. That's a fundamental principal of business and what wouldn't have been normal, is if the short lived shortage, did not generate greater profits. |

Gotta love sensationalist articles...I don't see how this was not expected. Prices go up, profits go up because demand for HDD's remained the same, but supply went down..

Yeah the headline is a bit misleading. The crisis wasn't fake, but the prices could have been needlessly inflated post-crisis for the sake of profits. Maybe we'll see a collusion/price fixing anti trust suit being launched???
