Prepaid Credit Cards or Similar?

I want to renew my 1 year subscription with XM Satellite radio but I don't want to pay with credit card. They will simply charge my credit card for another year of service at the rate they like. I'm pretty sure the credit card I originally used to pay for my service was reported stolen and I got a new number. But still, I need a way to pay for the new year of service. Is there another way? I know Citibank offers a one time use credit card which is nice, but I don't have Citibank. Is there another way?

Always use a Visa or Mastercard gift card. There's a one time fee of $3.95 or something at the time of purchase, so get a high denomination ($100 gift card vs. $25). When you get home, register it online per the instructions with your name and address. Choose a strong password.

To combat credit card fraud, this is how gift cards can be accepted online like credit cards for purchases. Lost or stolen, whatever anyone tries to order will go to you and only you. Charges can be disputed. The prepaid credit cards by Citibank are a HUGE ripoff with unbelievable ongoing fees. The only thing those can do that a registered gift card cannot do is automatic monthly payments. Hth!

Thank you resident surfer chick. I rep you. I guess I'll try the local book store to find a Visa gift card or mebbe Safeway? Can you refill these cards with more monies? I can easily see myself leaving a few dollars on the card because I won't be able to find stuff to buy. Since the minimum purchase is $1 for sure I'll be out a dollar but I guess it might be worth it in the end.

I call XM today to renew. They give me $94 for yearly sub. That's $7.83/mo or thereabouts. Not too bad. About half of what they offer for a regular sub (they originally wanted $177). They can bill you through the mail, pay by check. So that's what I do! I pay by check! They cannot charge you again using the same check, and they will have no credit card on file that will be valid! And I won't have to pay $5 for a prepaid VISA card. I am so happy I could cry.

Another thing you can do is use a virtual credit card number. That way they wont be able to keep your card number on file as it wont be active after your transaction is completed.
