Help me find a car stereo

My car stereo CD player stopped working (radio, tape player still work). I am going on a road trip tomorrow. I want to replace the stereo. I am very handy and am confident I can do it myself. However, I have no idea where to get a car stereo on short notice (like at a brick and mortar store). I know about ebay/amazon, but they won't ship soon enough. The only thing I can think of is Best Buy, but they are often way too expensive, and I'm not fond of them as a company. So where can I go to buy a car stereo for cheap? Maybe Walmart (but I'd rather not shop their either)? I really don't know. Where to start/where to go.

If it helps, the car is a 2001 Toyota Rav4. The stereo is larger, double DIN (due to tape deck and CD player). I guess I'd need to buy some sort of adapter kit if I go with a single DIN, so double might be preferred because install would be easier.

If you have a ABCwarehouse or a FRYs or Microcenter, try one of these in the listed order. Usually they have some decent sets for less than 75$ or even cheaper. Good luck.

I'm in New Orleans, and don't have any of those stores. Dang. I've only lived here for a few months so I'm not that familiar with the area, and I have never shopped for car stereos so I don't know where to start. Maybe just Walmart?

Walmart does carry car stereos, but I doubt that they stock very many double din units. Try Best Buy.

It's almost been a year and I'm still working on this process. Ends up most after market car stereos are nothing like stock stereos. They have really small buttons and real bright, flashy displays. I want the opposite. Something with average sized, usable buttons in logical positions, with no bright, crazy display. Double din vs. single din doesn't really matter due to adapter kits you can purchase, however, looks like the double dins often have bigger buttons. Any suggestions?

Why not get a stock stereo? Search Craigslist and see what comes up.

The only problems I can see with that is fit. Since you are trying fit it in a 2001 it will be hard to find an original stereo for this car. Aftermarket radios all fit in the adapter kits, but I don't think stock radios necessarily fit those adapter kits. Lots of people upgrade their stereos so you should be able to get a stock radio for a pretty cheap price.
