I'm an adoptive Mother and damn proud of it
![]() I dare anyone to say I'm less of a Mother, than one that has given birth. I raised my son since the moment he was handed to me in the delivery room. There was no bond between the birth mother and this child; although she carried him throughout the pregnancy; she disconnected from being "his mother" prior to the birth. Therefore, although she technically "was his mother" - there was no "mothering bond" when he was born; confirmed by the doctor's whom delivered my son. You ask a double sided question; which brings into question surrogate's as well; whom know they are carrying a child; which will not be their own. They are only a "gestational carrier" for another couple, who will become the Mother and Father, of said child. Much too complicated of a question, to answer yes and/or no. Of all days to raise such a question ![]() Happy Mother's Day to all those who have children, whether they be naturally born to you, or whether you have adopted them, or whether you are raising your own grandchildren, and being a "Mother" to them as well. As you are able to see, being a Mother, takes on a different aspect, when you look at what a "Mother" means in many ways. Off my

Another vote for mom can mean many things. My child-free friends are still moms in my book because their dogs/ cats are their children.

In Texas we always called them 'expecting moms' or 'mom to be' which I think is a good way to define their special status of not having the "joy" of experiencing labor pains yet.
Happiness and depression are both feelings, just like joy and anger. It's not feelings that give us problems. It's what we do with them that makes the difference.

I know people love their animals. I love mine, too. They're members of our family! But I think it'd be ridiculous to think of raising them as comparable to raising human children. |

It's a pretty loaded question. Is a crack whore with six kids she's receiving government assistance for a mother?
Take the proverb, "Any man can be a father, but it takes a special person to be a dad." The same can be applied to women. Any woman can be a mother, but it takes a special person to be a mom." Being a mother is a condition of the soul in my opinion. My two year old daughter brings sippy cups to her stuffed animals and pretends they are drinking. She makes beds for them and tucks them in. She rocks them and sings to them. She brushes them and babies them. When she becomes an adult and gets pregnant through immaculate conception, she will have already been a mom for quite some time if you ask me. Some women (like some men) have the fortitude of the soul to put themselves last and care for the weaker person, and some don't. The constitutions of most of our States and of the United States assert, that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves, in all cases to which they think themselves competent, or they may act by representatives, freely and equally chosen; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed; that they are entitled to freedom of person, freedom of religion, freedom of property, and freedom of the press. -Thomas Jefferson, June 5, 1824
