any idea how these sound compared to the Logitech Z2300? One of the speaker channels on my z2300 isn't working, so thinking of replacing them.

Dented box items are new. Just that the box is beat up. Sometimes they send you a brand new one if they run out of the dented boxes. Using their 5 speaker system right now which I got from another dented box deal and they work perfectly.

dented box are brand new. they just have a small scratch or dent on the outer box, but all the internals are still sealed up! you also get the full, awesome, warranty.

I got the z-5500 4 years ago for less than 200 off one of these deals! still using the speakers today!

These speakers sound pretty harsh, they don't have tweeters. The sub is good though.

I bought this speaker system a year ago on a previous dented box deal for $94. If there was a dent on the box, I couldn't find it. This current $90 deal is a good price for essentially a new Z623 setup (not returned/refurb like some lower previous deals.)

I currently have these speakers connected to my HTPC which is connected to my TV. The Z623 won't make you forget about a dedicated home theater setup. But for the price and where a full receiver/speaker setup will not fit, the Z623 can be a great improvement over the stock TV speakers, particularly in the area of bass production. It is nice to have both the overall volume and bass volume controls located up front on one of the right satellite speaker for easy access. We often adjust the bass level depending on time of day and kids sleeping, and it would be a pain to be crawling under the TV to find the bass volume adjustment on the back of the subwoofer - as is the case with some other systems.

My TV is located in a corner of my living room, with the Z623 subwoofer located under the TV stand, and the L/R speakers to either side. The subwoofer handles frequencies higher than a typical subwoofer, because it supplements the L/T satellite speakers. With the subwoofer dialed all the way down, the L/R speakers show their lack of range. For this reason, I think placing the sub near or under the TV is a good idea for the best sound localization.

At least for my setup with sub located in the corner and on hardwood floors, the bass is pretty good. Watching the film "Super 8", the train crash scene sounded like the train was crashing through the room. On the other hand, as a test I moved the Z623 to my larger basement, and with the subwoofer not in a corner or near a wall, the bass was substantially less noticeable. So, as with all speakers, location/positioning matters - hence one reason you will sometimes find wide discrepancy between folks opinions of speakers.

One point to keep in mind, although the Z623 has a 1/8 inch stereo input connector that can be plugged into the headphone output jack on a TV, some TVs do not put out a high enough level volume from the headphone jack, and so the Z623 will not work well with these TVs (if you plan to connect via the TV headphone jack). But if your TV has RCA outputs, or you plan to connect to an HTPC - works fine.

Z-2300 makes these cry, not worth the money. I don't know why Logitech stopped making z-2300, a classic speakers set

I kinda figured something like the scenario you describe was in play, hence the "microscopic" dent, lol.
