I've worked with kids in the past, and have seen a lot of sand tables. This is a nice one, but it really depends on what you are looking for. For the toddler/walker age group this is a great sand table. The 18 month olds to 4 year olds love to play in it. All though it claims it can hold up to 80 pounds of sand, that is actually an over-estimate, it holds closer to 50 pounds of sand, in fact, one 50 pound bag of sand fills it to just the right level. I don't recommend this table for children over 4 years old unless you have some comfortable chairs for them to sit in. Most of the 5 and 6 year olds had to kneel or sit on chairs to play with this table as it was just too short. I would call it a great "my first sand play table" because like I said it's perfect for the young toddlers to play with. It comes with 1 shovel, 2 rakes, and 1 bucket. These toys are a nice addition to the table, but they aren't really good for heavy play, think dollar store quality here. The lid has roads running on it, so you can use it to drive toy cars and trucks on, which is one of the things that made it appealing to the Sunday School class that I was teaching at the time.
This table can be used for rice, beans, sand, or as a water play table. The major downside to this table is that the lid is not air tight, in fact, it is not even a fitted lid. The lid sort of lays on top of the table, and then there are some bands that hold it in place. The lid keeps birds, cats, and other animals out of the table when used outdoors, but it will not keep out rain, snow, or even blowing leaves for that matter. The straps that hold the lid on our elastic, and they do wear out after repeated use. When this happens the lid becomes basically useless (under 6 months) so if you are looking for a lidded sand play table, then this is not really your best choice. If you are looking for an indoor sand table, rice table, or other type of indoor table, then I recommend this one highly, or if you have a covered patio, it's also great. I don't recommend it as an outdoor table, unless you bring it in before bad weather starts.
