My girlfriend just bought this laptop a couple weeks ago for $440 and she loves it. It is fast, gets pretty good battery life, and is stylish and well built for this price range. Like most new computers I would recommend removing some of the crapware that comes installed. Trying to decide between this one or the Toshiba for $400 or holding out for an ultrabook. In the next 3-6 months there is a flood expected and that should drive prices down from the current $700-800, but don't know if they'll go down much below $600 in the short term. Maybe by Black Friday or after Christmas clearance sale for the $500 price point. Meanwhile, these are decent deals for a different class machine.

I had 3 generations of the premium HP and they all failed.
HDX 16, dead pixel (best of the 3)
Envy 17 2nd gen, terrible build quality, and software issues

As a good reliable amd a6 llano laptop this is good. But the price should have been $400 maximum and possibly in the range of $300-400 since this is last years Tech.(not Trinity or Ivybridge). But no doubt this laptop will leave it's users very happy with reliability and performance as long as you are not a serious gamer. This laptop only has integrated 6520g graphics which perform ok--not extremely great but ok and good.

So keep in mind there is no dual graphics on this Asus laptop like the famous model (like in my signature) that has been selling all year long for only $450--K53ta bbr6 AMD A6 + 6650m. So you will have to look elsewhere for dedicated graphic mobile gaming laptop .

it's fairly ok, but not the best for number crunching. It's actually the slowest by a few minutes in processes compared to 2nd gen i3, i5, and AMD A8. Out of the box it usually only runs 1.4ghz with turbo speed up to 2.3 for a little while, but always comes back down to 1.4ghz. You can overclock the cpu easily & safely with K10stat program, and get a little better results so it will run faster than 1.4ghz up to 2.2 ghz reliably. But it can definitely do all the tasks that you speak of.

I would seriously wait a few weeks since lowest of the line Trinity laptops may come out for the same price range $400-500 in the next 2-3 months. I'm guessing it should be faster than 2nd gen Intel i3, Amd A6,& A8 to allow the above processes to complete slightly faster.

JUST HEARD THIS DEAL FROM OTHER USERS of the Famous ASUS A6 + 6650M (dual graphics) laptop that you can get it online BRAND NEW with faster harddrive for about $480 shipped! ($450 + $30 tax); this is about the same price it went for in August 2011 at Best Buy, except this one has faster harddrive and extra 2 gb ram.

Compared to the OP's laptop in this thread, the only negative is the smaller harddrive at 500gb instead of 750gb. And slightly slower cpu, but that is negligible when using K10stat for simple overclocking.

It goes in and out of stock, but I see it in stock right now! this is still a good deal if you are in an emergency for a budget gaming/all purpose laptop right now. If not then just wait 1-2 months for newer tech.

This is a much nicer laptop than the above OP's $430 deal since you get an extra graphic card, which will allow all graphic apps and games to run even more smoothly than before. (see the wiki on ASUS K53TA BBR6 for Game samples.)
