Are you using HDMI or DisplayPort?

HDMI doesnt support the full resolution, dual link DVI didnt work at full res either for some reason (even with DVI-DL cable). displayport was the only option, at least on my motherboard. and no hdcp.

So I finished up removing the AG coating from my monitor this morning about 8:00. The coating came off without issue after 6 hours using the paper towel method that can be easily found online. The monitor was very easy to take apart and there is no way to tell that I even have taken it apart. There is no litmus paper, seals, nor any tamper proof screws. The monitor looks absolutely stunning with a full glossy wide gamut panel as well as the CCFL back lighting. I may eventually post a how to video on how to remove the AG coating on the Auria but not right now. If anyone wants to do it, PM me, and I will be happy to provide step by step instructions for disassembling the monitor, removing the coating, and reassembling it.

Id rather just buy the Dell than waste 6 hours of my life

I need to go check out the anti glare version. I actually much prefer anti glare than the glossy glare catching screens.

I only spent, at most, 30 minutes of actual work in it. All you have to do is take the monitor apart, put moist paper towels over the top of the screen(covering the edges with dry ones or something else to prevent drips), wait 5 or 6 hours(adding another layer of moist paper towels every hour), take the AG coating off, and put the monitor back together. I was in a hotel and had literally nothing better to do so I just watched TV and messed around on my TF700 while I waited. It was definitely worth saving the $250 from buying the U2711(which is now what this monitor is comparable to).


...And all of the Dell's have at least some AG coating. I specifically wanted a glossy panel. Though, if you like the AG coating, this monitor is probably perfect for you as is. Be aware that the level of AG is the same as the U2410 and U2711. It isn't a semi gloss screen like the U2713HM or the Asus PB278Q.

Most HDMI and DVI ports using Intel onboard video from the built in HD2000/3000 on Sandy Bridge/Ivy Bridge do not support higher than 1900x1200 and sometimes even less on the DVI port. DisplayPort is your only option. I know this from experience.

As far as HDCP on Display Port, Microsoft did not write the correct code into the operating system/media software to implement HDCP on DisplayPort. DisplayPort is full capable of HDCP but not implemented by Microsoft. So, Media Center or other software that needs HDCP will choke when you try to use DiplayPort. I have a DELL U3011 and I use DisplayPort because it is the only way I can get 2560x1600 resolution out of my GigaByte motherboard's onboard video.

As you are aware, you can display MediaCenter on a 2nd display that has DVI or HDMI. I don't use a second display and use my U3011 with DisplayPort and can't use the 2nd display trick. When I want to watch TV on my U3011, I open the guide and then look for the program/channel I want to watch. Once I have decided, I right click and select record on the program that is currently running on the channel I want to watch. I then click on the channel below it and get the display driver error and then I go back to the guide and click on the program/channel I started recording. I then stop the recording and I am able to watch the channel for as long as I have MediaCenter open. Unfortunately, this method does not allow for channel surfing because you get the display driver error on the next channel you switch to.

Just picked mine up this morning all i can say is wow the colors really pop!!

Someone posted that you can tell if it's AG or Glossy by the handle area of the box.... does anyone know if they still carry both types (preferably Chicago area) or if they are phasing out glossies completely?

Can't you just get a TV that is about that size for the same price if not cheaper?

Thanks for the tip. I paid close to $1100 for my 30" Dell U3011 monitor almost 2 years ago. I feel like such a fool now. I could have gotten 32" TV and saved a lot of money. Why didn't I think of that.

Thanks, good to know. I didn't realize it was a Microsoft driver issue. I wonder if that's fixed in windows 8.

The newer HDMI spec is *supposed* to support much higher resolutions, the HD3000 onboard video is *supposed* to support the newer HDMI spec, and the new HDMI cable I bought for this purpose was *supposed* to support the new HDMI spec too.
But it didn't. So Im stuck with displayport and no HDCP on my 27"
