Anyone use a Droid X?

I absolutely love my droid x. I could upgrade now but refuse to while this phone still works. My only problem is that now, sometimes when I take a picture the phone won't save it. It shows up as the generic landscape photo. I can reboot the phone and it fixes it for a little while. Any idea what the problem could be?

Although I haven't run into the issue "It shows up as the generic landscape photo." seems to indicate it actually is taking a picture? But orientation is not correct??

I started running into an issue with sending pictures as text messages, but deleted some junk pics and now it sends fine. Have you tried to delete any old texts/pics/etc to see if it may be a possible storage issue?

Also I am curious if you have rooted / installed 3rd party ROM on this phone what your experience has been thus far? I am well past warranty and am finally warming up to the idea if installing cyanogenmod but don't want to lose my camera.

I have one, and am currently waiting until the second gen LTE Chipsets are out to upgrade. I have not had this problem but it has been well over a year since I was running stock. I would suggest trying a non stock camera app, and check to make sure you have free storage space on the SD card.

@Beefcake78 If you took the latest OTA update, the process of modding is significantly more difficult since they closed a few loopholes. I am currently one version back so it makes things easier.

When I said "landscape photo" I meant "icon". the picture it saves and shows in the gallery is of the icon. And no, no mods done to this phone. Stock running 2.3.4

It sounds like you have just encountered a bug, especially since a reboot fixes it. I assume you are running .621?

There are plenty of replacement camera apps that actually work better than stock and good gallery replacements as well. I really like Quickpic for my gallery and CameraZoom for a replacement camera.

thanks I will check those apps out. Its not that big of a deal since a reboot fixes it, but it does get on my nerves having to reboot.

You should definitely take the plunge. I was hesitant at first with my X2 but it needed to be rooted to fix a certain error that Verizon ignored at the time. Since you can get an upgrade, now is the best time to play around with your Droid X. It won't be as devastating to upgrade as it would to spend $500 on a new out of contract phone.

.621 is actually more difficult to mod/recover than the older versions of Gingerbread. There is an SBF file for .621 but its a little different. That being said the documentation is pretty good on it. Assuming you can follow directions and have a decent understanding of what you are doing before you do it, you should be OK. You can screw stuff up but there rare only a few ways to really screw up the phone. (Battery dies when flashing, corrup download, steps in the wrong order)

I have a questions about the Droid X. Mine will sometimes start up with the battery, sometimes not. When it doesnt I charge it and the green light stays on, but the battery does not charge. I put in another battery and the phone seems to reset itself. What is going on? Bad battery or phone? How do I fix this?

What do you mean "it seems to reset itself"? If you mean when you take the battery out of the phone it shuts off this is normal, even if you are plugged in. If I had to guess you have a bad battery. I have never really heard of that issue. It's really hard to say what is going on, and even harder to fix it.

I can follow directions, I have built my last 2 computers by myself. But I will be honest, im almost 35 years old and this is my 1st smart phone. I absolutely love it but I see videos and such of people with the same phone and it just looks so much better than my X. If I had some website, video, etc... that I knew was absolutely the right thing to do I would do like the previous poster said and take the plunge. I just don't know who to listen to.

I should have worded that better. Reset as in, swap the battery and it starts right up, no problems. But then I put the old battery in and there is no problem then? Hence the reset. Battery 1 has a problem, put in battery 2, boots. Put battery 1 back in and no problems?
