Question about CC Fraud
My Chase Sapphire Preferred card has been compromised twice this year. The first, I'm fairly certain- was due to skimming. The card was reported used in person in local establishments less than 50 miles away. Second time, it was used to make three $2k plane ticket purchases for KoreanAir under Online/Telephone/Mail. Chase is great with cancelling and getting me a new card quickly but twice within a few months is ridiculous.
First incident didn't bother me much - it's a flashy card (metal and single dark color) and I was stupid to use it at a lot of cheap places. The second one which may be an online purchase is my main concern. After it was replaced, I reduced it's frequency and only used it at a few nice places (I know this doesn't rule out skimming) and once to book a hotel online. After a month of inactivity, I see these 3 large airfare charges.
I have a few questions for the community.
(1) I'm guessing the plane tickets were purchased online based on the billing detail. Is it even possible for this theft to be result of skimming or some type of RFID hack? I don't see how they could of purchased these tickets without my billing address.
(2) How likely is this something to do with my computers? I have a Macbook Pro (OSX) and a desktop that was formatted after the first incident and never used for online purchases since the replacement. As stated earlier, the card was only used once online to book a hotel room.
(3) Am I overlooking anything? How can I protect myself from this happening again?
