The 3yr warranty is very attractive with some of the Latitude and Precision laptops. 1080p on the Latitude E5520 is very affordable, and I can overlook that it only comes with 1yr warranty. However, I was just looking at a cheap Vostro 3350 to replace my older Inspiron 11z.

The inventory of Precision workstations seems to be very low. Is that seasonal? Or are they in the process of rolling out new models?

I haven't been tracking the Precision laptop inventory over a long period of time, but today's inventory seems the norm. I was checking the M4600 and M6600 models a month or so ago, and there were 100-150 systems -- same as today. I like the 1200p resolution of the older models, and I am surprised I don't see it in the newer M4600 and M6600.

I meant PC workstations. I haven't really been following laptops.

As far as laptops, I love the 1920x1200 resolution too. Don't see myself using anything less than that. I have been using Dell laptops from the Consumer segment with that resolution. It was always a hassle to find that resolution at a good price in the Business segment.

New Latitudes on the way any day now [engadget.com]. Also not too happy that they seem to have boosted prices shortly before this deal came out.

Still, I'd grab another E6420 if the price was right (it isn't now).

I have two Alienware desktops that will probably serve me well for another couple of years, so I haven't been paying attention to the desktop inventory in the outlet. I have noticed, however, that the desktop/workstation inventory has been getting smaller and smaller over the years, with the rise of the popularity and performance of laptops. Few years ago, I recall seeing desktops in the 1000+ count; now they are in the hundreds.

The Latitude ST tablet PC with 32gb is $340 after coupon. Not bad at all.

Thanks. have been tracking prices for a while. I ended up getting a 3.8lb V131, i3-2350, 4 cell (hard to find) for $370 as compared to $699 new for the same specs (and they no longer sell the lighter 4 cell as an option.)

A solid price for a reasonably powerful, small laptop w/ USB3X2, backlit keyboard and upgrade-ability (SSD/battery.) Was tempted by the V131 w/ i5, more Ram and better HDD only for $35 or jumping up to a latitude (better build/warranty but no USB3) but really wanted to stay under $400 and get the smaller battery

There are lots of great deals out there in the $500-$800 range... but this might be the only full powered SandyBridge sub 4lb 13" laptop under $400 available right now. If there is a better option in this wt/$ range please let me know.

Anyone have suggestions for a laptop with a backlit keyboard and has a CD/DVD rom? Thanks!

The E6330 and E6430 offer this and 3 year warranty and military spec construction. But no USB 3 standard. If you need USB 3 you have to by and add-on to put in place of the DVD (it is removable) or in the expresscard slot (costs about $20 and sits flush.)

These models are about $520 and up after coupon.
